Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments

Coladia and Anuman Interactive have announced the release of Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy for Mac OS X. Set in 16th century Provence, in a country ravaged by religious wars and devastated by the plague, Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy is an historical adventure game in which players have to solve a series of riddles and puzzles inspired by the works of Nostradamus, taking them through the worlds of astrology, medicine and medicinal plants.

It has been three years since Catherine de Medicis' rule as regent came to an end, but she still holds the reins of power, making her the target of repeated attacks from the French nobility. One day in March 1566, when she realises that she has fallen victim to a terrible curse, she turns to her doctor and astrologer, Michel de Nostre-Dame, better known as Nostradamus.

Unfortunately, the famous prophet is too old and weak to take on such a mission alone. Refusing to abandon his queen in her hour of need, he sends his daughter Madeleine in his place. However, there is no such thing as women astrologers, let alone women doctors in medieval times. To be accepted as such, the young woman must go in disguise and assume her younger brother's identity, Cesar, who is away for some time.

Alternating between Madeleine the young woman and Madeleine disguised as Cesar, players are plunged into a thriller where political scheming and ancestral prophecies are intertwined. The game begins as an initiatory adventure in the footsteps of her father, the prophet and astrologer, before creating all the suspense of a detective novel: from one murder to another, players make their way through a test-riddled forensic investigation.

Following in the same vein as The Secrets of Da Vinci - The Forbidden Manuscript, Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy is an historical adventure game in which players have to solve a series of riddles and puzzles inspired by the works of Nostradamus, taking them through the worlds of astrology, medicine and medicinal plants.

Though the game does not offer two fundamentally different paths, "transforming" the main character gives players a unique alternative by allowing them to assume another identity, change sex (their appearance in any case) and use it to their advantage when interacting with other characters.

Key Features:
  • Defeat the last prophecy of the great philosopher Nostradamus and change the course of history
  • Discover the first historical adventure game based on astrology and the prophecies of Nostradamus
  • Get ready to investigate a series of murders perilously close to the royal family and become a criminal profiler ahead of time
  • You can either be Nostradamus' daughter or play the role of her brother depending on the situation to help your mystical quest
  • Unravel a series of machiavellian riddles and puzzles based not just on astrology but also alchemy, pharmacy and ancient runes
  • Dive into Renaissance Provence and discover richly realistic photo-quality background that faithfully recreate the time of Nostradamus
  • Get into the action straight away thanks to intuitive gameplay and progressivly increasing difficulty level
Nostradamus - The Last Prophecy is a Universal application that runs on Mac computers with either Intel or PowerPC G5 processors. A free demo version is available for download. The game can be purchased at the link below for $29.90 (USD).

Apple Games Features Out Of The Park Baseball 11

Apple Games latest feature takes a swing at Out of the Park Baseball 11, the latest incarnation of the sports series. The article includes a sample game season showcasing the game's features, a list of what's new in the latest version, and a rundown of historical seasons players might want to try.

Team owners had fairly simplistic personalities in previous versions of OOTP, but now they have varying fiscal attitudes and patience levels, along with more complex goals for their clubs. Just like in real life, some of them are free-spending wheelers and dealers looking to win the World Series every year, while others pinch their pennies and would rather let a veteran leave than sign him to an expensive contract extension.

To help you deal with owners, players, draftees, scouts, and other computer-controlled personalities, you can now jot down manager notes, complete with reminders, and you can write your thoughts on player pages too. Position players can migrate over to the pitching side, and vice-versa, allowing you to tap into hidden potential, and you can now clone players and see if their doppelgangers chart similar careers.

Under the hood, a built-in statistics re-calculator regularly pulls simulated statistics in line with historical trends through settings you can customize. Thatís important when playing historical seasons, which also now evolve the way they really did: new teams enter the leagues via expansion during the appropriate years, free agency arrives in 1975, and so forth. OOTP 11 follows Major League Baseball rules in requiring five years after retirement for a player to be considered for induction into the Hall of Fame, but you can change that number.

Jeff Vogel Discusses The Origin Of Avadon The Black Fortress
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

In a recent post on his The Bottom Feeder blog Spiderweb Software's Jeff Vogel revealed some background information about the upcoming fantasy RPG, Avadon: The Black Fortress. Vogel discussed the role the opera Bluebeard's Castle played in the formation of the idea for Avadon, and revealed some more information about the game's setting.

Avadon is described as an epic adventure in a strange and dangerous world in which players take the role of a spy and warrior who must fight the enemies of his homeland. Avadon: The Black Fortress will feature four different character classes, dozens of sidequests, hundreds of items to discover, and many different possible endings.

In Avadon, the land of Lynauus is split in two. There is the Pact, an uneasy alliance of five nations, banded together for safety. On the other side is the Farlands, the enemies of the Pact, barbarians and monsters and old, crumbling Empires, kept weak and divided. But they long to get their revenge on the Pact. To put together armies and destroy these upstarts.

And the Pact is protected by Avadon. Avadon is a fortress in the wilds, a law unto itself, separate from the government. Its warriors are tasked to find problems when they are small and do whatever it takes to remove them. Avadon is ruled by Keeper Redbeard, the smiling, jolly, utterly ruthless master of the Black Fortress. He has been in charge for sixty years, though he doesn't appear to have aged a day.

As the game begins, you have just arrived at Avadon's gates. And you have found that, after decades of steely, unbroken control, things are going terribly wrong. Redbeard wants to see you. He needs a pair of fresh eyes, and it is a bad idea to disappoint him.
