Doctor Who Adventure Games Developer Diary Available 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
A new video developer diary for the BBC's Doctor Who: The Adventure Games series is now available. The downloadable series of four 'interactive episodes' based on the popular British sci-fi television series are scheduled to debut with the first episode, City of the Daleks, on June 5th. In the game the Doctor and Amy must travel to the Daleks' home planet in an effort to save Earth. The TARDIS materializes in 1963 - and London is in ruins. The Daleks have seized control of time and the only chance of saving Earth lies in a desperate quest to Skaro, the Daleks' home planet - before time catches up with Amy, the last survivor of the human race! Written by Phil Ford (Doctor Who: Dreamland; Sarah Jane Adventures) and executive produced by Steven Moffat, episode one of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games is full of the TV show's celebrated mix of action, peril and humour. Players will help the Doctor and Amy on an epic new adventure in an original story which forms part of the current series, traversing time and space in a dazzling episode. 'City of the Daleks' features a new breed of Daleks. Nicholas Briggs provides the voice of the Daleks, alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan who recreate their roles as the Doctor and Amy. "This is quite a series opener," says Phil Ford, writer, Doctor Who. "We destroy London even before the credits role - so you can only begin to imagine where we travel to from there. City of the Daleks is as big-budget as you can imagine: from London we head to Kaalann, the capital city of the Daleks, one constructed from pure anger and hate. And these new Daleks don't like to be messed with, so players are about to enjoy a new interactive episode which is as heart-pulsing as anything you've seen before." The Doctor Who Adventure Games will be available as a free download. For more information follow the links below.

Two Worlds II New Screenshots Revealed 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Worthplaying recently posted some new screenshots from TopWare Interactive and Reality Pump's upcoming fantasy RPG, Two Worlds II. Two Worlds II will send players to the unexplored land of Eastern Antaloor and will feature detailed graphics, an active combat system, and a complex storyline. Two Worlds II presents a totally new gamer experience, one in which 2 years of intensive development has enabled quantum leaps in all spheres: completely overhauled AI and balancing standards, experienced authors, the active combat system and the brand-new engine all combine to provide an unforgettable experience where excitement, sheer enjoyment and graphics rule. “Two Worlds II” simply sets new technical benchmarks in the RPG genre, thanks not least to its seemingly unlimited number of dynamic light sources, micro-detail Parallax Mapping, 24 Bit HDR Post Processing, Space Ambient Occlusion and Human Eye Accommodation. Rescued from prison by former enemies, the player once again assumes control of the unnamed hero, only to find the world of Antaloor has been forever changed in their absence. Boasting a diverse, living world and a limitless open narrative, Two Worlds II could very well be the next sleeper hit of the genre. Antaloor is a mythic world of pristine savannahs and mordant swamps, celestial cities teeming with life that will rise or fall entirely depending of the player's actions, as the reign of the implacable despot Gandohar threatens to throw the world into a state of irreversible decay. Featuring the all-new GRACE game engine, Two Worlds II seeks to offer an immersive blend of two of the most important role playing elements - strong atmosphere and dazzling visuals. Incorporating cutting-edge technology features such as Real Eye Adaptation, HD Dynamic Motion Capture, and Multi-Source Dynamic Lighting, the world of Antaloor comes alive like never before as a true role-player’s paradise Check out the page below to view the new screenshots.

Frank Pearce Discusses StarCraft, Diablo, and WarCraft 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
VG247 has published a new interview with Blizzard Entertainment's Senior VP Frank Pearce. The topics discussed covered a range of issues related to Blizzard's current an upcoming franchises including Diablo III, StarCraft II, and World of Warcraft. VG247: The release date for Starcraft II is now confirmed at July 27. You must have been happy to finally set that, given the game has been in development since back in 2003. Frank Pearce: Well, yeah, it has been in some way, shape or form. And probably in earnest since 2005. So it is nice to have that release date set in stone at this early stage – and this really is pretty early for us to announce a street date like that. Almost two months in advance of the street date. VG247: Which, presumably, suggests that the beta has gone well. Frank Pearce: Beta’s gone well. We feel that we are comfortable with the content. And that we will be able to deliver an update. It’s nice to give the development team a clear goal – and they feel very confident that they will be able to achieve it. There’s not any ambiguity about what we are trying to do right now. VG247: WoW seems to have levelled off a little recently, with the number of players hovering around the 11.5 million mark for the last year or two. Do you think this is it now? Has WoW hit its peak in terms of player numbers? Frank Pearce: No, I don’t think that at all. I mean, you can look at that number and if you look at some of the details around it… In China, for example, we haven’t even launched Wrath of the Lich King yet, and that expansion is already 18-plus months old. They’re still playing The Burning Crusade there, because we’re waiting for approval for Wrath from the appropriate agencies. And once we get that approval and launch Wrath in China then I think we will see growth. Read the full Q&A at the link below.

Rage: Previewing The Wasteland 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment
Incgamers has posted a new preview of Rage, id Software's upcoming combination of first person shooter and action racing title. The preview provides comments from id's Tim Willits about the game's post-apocalyptic setting and action elements. Arriving in Wellsprings, we ditch the buggy and head straight for the nearest bar, as if Willits was impressively well-versed in the conventions of English tourism. “The bar's a great place to hear about back story”, we're told and we immediately overhear some chatter about the Authority setting the price of water in the wasteland, something the locals don't seem to keen on. It's not long before we become the subject of conversation as a local points out our unwise attire. It seems that wearing an Ark suit is likely to get you kidnapped by the Authority and we're advised to ditch it at our earliest convenience. Having found some alternate clothing, the town alarm sounds and we're told to head to the Wellmaster's office. See, Wellspring is situated on top of a crucial water supply which makes it a strategic target for its enemies and the Wellmaster tells us that a gang know as The Ghost Clan have attacked the water facility and it's our job to get rid of them. “Weapons and items are very important to us” Willits explains as we descend into the well facility, spotting the markings of the Ghost Clan on the walls. Picking up a crossbow and electrical bolts, he goes on to reveal that most weapons in the game will support more than one ammo type which he demonstrates by shooting an electrical bolt at the pool of water beneath the feet of two Ghosts. Obviously, they're toasted instantly and we pick up an AK-type assault rifle from the bodies. It's then that we're shown the dynamic hit system in action as Willits reveals the Assault Rifle is one of his favourite weapons in the game as it showcases the hit system beautifully. And we soon disover he's right as he unloads a clip into an oncoming Ghost who reacts appropriately to his wounds, limping and grabbing an arm before he takes a kill shot to the head.
