FusionFall Goes Free-To-Play, Adds New Content

The Cartoon Network has announced that its kid friendly MMO, FusionFall, is now free to play. The online game also recently added new content related to Generator Rex and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, with the introduction of new missions, monsters, and items. FusionFall puts players in the role of a kid in a re-imagined Cartoon Network universe where they team up with other players and Cartoon Network characters to defend it from an alien invasion.

FusionFall is now entirely FREE!
Yep, you read that correctly.

While our Unlimited Access subscribers have done an amazing job battling Lord Fuse, we simply need more firepower if we're ever going to stand a chance at truly saving the universe. We need every singe player to make it all the way to level 36 and Fuse's doorstep.

To celebrate the upcoming premieres of Generator Rex and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, FusionFall players can now enjoy more missions and characters in the game!

Ben 10 fans can jump in and play our first FusionFall Adventure – Alien Abductions!

This expanding campaign adds new permanent content under a specific story arc. New missions and characters from the Ben 10 world appear in FusionFall, as the secret of why Ben has been unable to transform and a devious plot by the returning Vilgax begins to unfold.

Din's Curse Reviewed

Co-Optimus has posted a new review of Soldak Entertainment's Din's Curse, the company's recently released action RPG. In Din's Curse players take the role of an adventurer cursed to walk the lands in a quest for redemption. The game features 141 possible class combinations, an infinite number of dynamically generated towns, and a game world directly impacted by player choices. CO-Optimus gave Din's Curse a score of 4 out of 5.

From the review:

Quests are dynamic, and the game is rather serious when it tells you to prioritize quests where you're told that you need to hurry. Wait too long to talk to that informant or townsperson locked away in the dungeon and the monsters will overtake them, dinging your rep. If you don't take on a quest that has a time limit, the NPCs can still die, so don't blindly grab quests upon entering town. Thankfully, a lot of the kill quests will grant you credit for killing their target before you snag the quest. I wish more games did this (I'm looking at you, WoW!).

Clearing all of the quests in a town will save it, and you will earn you a victory chest full of booty from Din, proving he isn't always a jerk. You may still head back into the dungeon to explore further, but at this point, you can bask in the glory of the victory screen (complete with fireworks) and generate a new town. If the game's feeling too easy for you, whenever you generate a new town, you can choose to beef up the enemies found within.

The co-op play works exactly as you would expect. Invite as many friends as you want to your game and go slaughter some kobolds. Reread that last sentence. There's no hard-limit to number of players in a co-op session. Players can initiate trades or revert the time-honored tradition of littering the town square with all the loot they don't want. The choice is yours! All quests and experience points are shared by the players, so if someone decides to head back to town, they can take care of turning in quests for the rest of their friends.

Diablo III: Shrines, Orbs, Wizards, And Witch Doctors

In recent posts on the Diablo III forums community manager Bashiok revealed new information about the upcoming action RPG. This time the discussion covered a variety of topics including paying to revive hard core characters, stat customization, shrines, orbs, and mana,

On paying to restore hardcore characters:
Paying to bring back a fallen hardcore character was something I read someone here post once, and I simply repeated it to say I thought it was an interesting idea. I'm not a designer. Things I find interesting doesn't mean they're being implemented. I have though heard Jay (who is lead designer) say that paying to bring back hardcore is pretty much a horrible idea.

On statistic customization:
Not really, they're referred to by the masses as "auto-stats". Meaning every level your base stats automatically grow. There will still obviously be ways to customize your stats through various systems though. Itemization being one of them. And some other stuff. So yes you will be able to customize your stats, but it won't be by gaining a number to distribute every level and pumping them into the base stats directly.

On shrines and orbs:
Shrine buffs apply to the entire party as long as they're in range.

As far as "power-up orbs" it's something I thought of as well, which usually means the designers thought of it a year+ ago. Not as a shrine replacement though, but as a replacement for buff scrolls/elixirs. I just either forget to use them or let them sit afraid of wasting them. So they just take up bag space. I face the same dilemma in WoW and usually just end up throwing them on the AH because I realize I'll never use them. Obviously some people are better than me, and able to remember to use them, as they usually sell.

EVE Online: Tyrannis Visuals Previewed

CCP Games has published a new developer blog describing changes planned for its sci-fi MMO, EVE Online. The post details work in progress on the visual look of the upcoming expansion, Tyrannis. The expansion will feature the ability to harvest minerals from planets, updates to its EVE Gate (previously called COSMOS) social networking elements, and a variety of optimizations and improvements.

Part of the process of bringing Planetary Interaction to life as its own unique and engaging element of gameplay, was to create all new assets specifically for it. Below you can see a few concepts from our artists that depict the orbital hangar and a container, both major components in the transportation of goods from the planet to your cargohold.

Aside from these models that you‘ll see in space, we will also provide an inventory of planet-based structures for your colonies to extract and process materials from the surface.

After all, if the capsuleers are going to plunk down facilities to drain the planets of precious resources, then we better make sure we do it using sexy looking facilities.

The look of the structures depends on their location and type of facility they resemble. You can imagine that your Command Center will look different if it‘s situated on a gas planet than it will on a terrestrial planet.

The corporation logo components in their current form have reached an age where we didn't feel that they fit in anymore. For Tyrannis, we dedicated a team to aggressively attack that front and update the corporation logo components. The improved components have more detail now and look a lot better. In EVEGate, the corporation logos will form a real part of your corporation identity now.
