Out Of The Park Baseball 11 Released

OOTP Developments has announced the release of Out of this Park Baseball 11, the latest in the baseball simulation series. OOTP 11 includes a variety of additions to the franchise, including interface and engine improvements, improved historical simulations, 2010 major league rosters, and new draft and player development features.

Out of the Park Baseball ("OOTP") is the most sophisticated baseball simulation game on the market. Apple Games Features Brothers In Arms: Double Time

Apple Games has published a new feature article showcasing the soon to be released Mac version of Brothers In Arms: Double Time, developed by Gearbox and brought to Mac by Feral Interactive. The article includes an overview of the game, comments from Producer Mike Wardwell, writer Mike Neumann, and writer/adviser Col. John Antal, as well as a variety of tips, tricks, cheats, and history.

The Gearbox team decided to focus on the Normandy Invasion from a different perspective because, as Wardwell says, “Omaha Beach has been done.” He continues: “But what about the paratroopers who landed behind enemy lines and helped make the beach landing a possibility? The 101st also played a critical role in taking the city of Carentan, which was the Allied forces’ first foothold in Europe.”

Brothers in Arms: Double Time tells its story in two parts: Road to Hill 30 delves into Baker’s trial by fire while Earned in Blood portrays Hartsock’s determination to prove himself. “Each game explores separate themes,” Neumann explains. “Road to Hill 30 is really all about Matt Baker coming to grips with becoming the leader and sole person responsible for the lives of his men. What kind of leader can someone be if they never wanted it? The answer: a damn good one.”

He adds: “Earned in Blood was quite the change-up from Hill 30. Switching the perspective to Hartsock made for an interesting change of story scenery: this was a man who always wanted to be Sergeant and was jealous when Baker got it instead. Since the game takes place before and after that happens, it was about exploring what it actually means to become the leader. Earned in Blood was a very literal title in that the victory at the end of the game was a major sacrifice for all involved, a sacrifice that Hartsock has to believe in and deal with as time moves on.”

WoW Cataclysm: Mount Hyjal Dungeon Previewed

Blizzard Entertainment has updated its official World of Warcraft: Cataclysm website with a preview of Mount Hyjal, a dungeon to be featured in the upcoming expansion for the MMO. The new content includes the lore behind the new level 85 raid dungeon as well as two new screenshots.

For years, Mount Hyjal and the wounded World Tree, Nordrassil, have remained cut off from the rest of Azeroth. Sealed away within a protective field of dense foliage by Malfurion Stormrage, Nordrassil has been slowly recovering from the devastation of the Third War, when Malfurion called upon the tree's power to destroy the archdemon Archimonde and repel the forces of the Burning Legion and Scourge. Now, with the impending cataclysm, the World Tree's well-being is threatened once more. From the Firelands within the Elemental Plane, Ragnaros and his minions prepare to burst into Hyjal and set Nordrassil ablaze -- and the conflagration would endanger all life on Azeroth.

In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, players will have the opportunity to explore the newly reopened Mount Hyjal as Azeroth's heroes, with the help of Ysera, Malfurion Stormrage and Hamuul Runetotem, are called upon to push back the armies of the Firelord, banish Ragnaros to the Elemental Plane and lay waste to the twilight dragon stronghold in nearby Darkwhisper Gorge. This all-new level 78-82 zone will feature multiple quest hubs, phased terrain and quest lines, portals to micro-zones within the Firelands, an all-new raid dungeon, and much more.

Two Worlds II Previewed

Destructoid recently published a new preview of Two Worlds II, the upcoming fantasy RPG from TopWare Interactive and Reality Pump. The game will send players to the unexplored land of Eastern Antaloor and will feature detailed graphics, an active combat system, and a complex storyline.

You will be hard pressed to find a more visually appealing game in terms of the world you will be exploring. Between the individual blades of grass, a rocky mountain path, or a dark dank cave, the environments are nothing short of breathtaking. The locales in the cityscapes each have their own personality and intricacies too. The detailed sculptures and buildings in the oriental inspired village are just as astounding as the medieval themed city’s gruff landscape. I can’t help but still think back about how blown away I was by how astoundingly good everything in the game’s world looked. Instead of the typical cheap, half-hearted 2D images representing landmarks in the distance, everything was rendered in 3D. It’s a game like this that makes me want to get lost in the massive world and just appreciate the time and effort that has gone into making everything look so nice.

The enemy AI seems to be a bit better than most games. Drawing the attention of more than one enemy at a time will cause them to surround you. Maybe it’s because it isn’t a final build yet, but a gripe I had was how the game suffered a bit of “only one enemy will attack you at a time” syndrome, something that bothers me a lot in most games. The skeletons that were fought in the cave area were just as detailed as the environments; one even had a fire in its chest cavity that showed off the same lighting and shadow effects from before.

The NPCs wandering around the towns are also a lot smarter this time around and react to your character, which I found to be a very nice touch. In the oriental inspired town, the main character bumped into some NPCs and they were a bit taken back, seemed scared and would run away from him. We then had the main character draw his sword, which drew gasps from the townsfolk who were just having a leisurely stroll. It brought concern from a couple of the town’s guards, which had their hands on their sheaths, ready to defend the town’s inhabitants. It’s seeing things like this that gives me the impression that the developers really do care about what gamers say.
