New Prince Of Persia Trailer Available

Apple has posted a new game trailer for Prince of Persia. Brought to Intel Macs through TransGaming's Cider emulation software, the game begins a new chapter in the PoP universe. Prince of Persia features a new storyline, new open world environments, a new combat style, a new signature illustrative graphical style, a new Prince, and a deadly new ally.

Built by the same award-winning Ubisoft Montreal studio that created Assassin's Creed™, Prince of Persia® has been in development for over three years to deliver a whole new action-adventure gaming experience to consumers.
With a whole new Prince, storyline, open world environments, combat style, signature illustrative graphical style and the addition of Elika, a deadly new ally, Prince of Persia brings the franchise to new heights of deadly acrobatic, artistry.

Spore Galactic Adventures: Five New Screenshots

Fallout 2 Developers Reminisce

Good Old Games has released a second new Fallout retrospective article, this one focusing on the second game in the post apocalyptic RPG series, Fallout 2. In addition to describing the gameplay and storyline which made the title a hit with fans, the article also features commentary from designers Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, and Chris Taylor.

Avellone was no stranger to the ripple effects made by every in-game decision. "I felt an intense desire to murder the kids in the Den when I realized they were stealing my stuff," he recalls from one early play session. "Then I realized that if I did that, I would be stigmatized in the game. This was a holdover from the original designers for Fallout 2, their souls be damned."

As the development clock clicked inexorably toward milestones, the team subjected themselves to as much overtime as was required to ship the product they had envisioned. "We were tweaking the boxing ring rules in New Reno literally in the last hour before the game was scheduled for its final submission," Avellone says. "We probably should have downscaled the game, but even cutting an area or two would have required extensive bug-fixing at that time, and we didn't have all the QA support--or even the developers able to test stuff--at the end. I do know that San Francisco almost got completely rebuilt in the last few weeks of dev time; designer John Deiley locked himself in his room for two weeks to redesign the area."

Fallout 2's development also contained its fair share of snafus that, despite the hectic pace of the schedule, made for fond recollections. "Ron Perlman threatened to kill me for how I wrote the end-game narrative text," Avellone says, grinning. "It had some pretty horrible lines for any voice actor to try and say. I wasn't there at the session, but the audio producer brought in mp3s of Ron Perlman threatening to kill me, my family, and I believe my dog, even though I don't have a dog. It was pretty scary.

"To conclude the tale, I had to sit in on a voice session with him for Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, but he didn't know who I was. Then I had to explain he was going to be playing a transvestite dragon [in Heart of Winter], and I got that sinking feeling he would simply murder me for the hell of it."

Diablo III: Health Globes, Defending Barbarians & Wizards

More information about Diablo III, the upcoming return to Blizzard Entertainment's popular action RPG franchise, is now available on the official forums thanks to community manager Bashiok. The topics this time include more information about Health Globes and responses to disappointment with the Barbarian and Wizard classes.

With regard to Health Globes:
Bashiok: Yeah the idea of picking up health globes while at already full health and having them still provide some type of benefit has been an idea bouncing around these halls for quite a while. If I were a bettin’ man, and I’m not because I’m horrible at it, I’d reckon that there might be something we do with that.
I play a decent amount of TF2 so I’m sort of partial to the medic-style overheal that then slowly ticks down over time. It could work. It may also be completely unnecessary.
Anyway, the barbarian has to concern himself with health quite a bit more than the witch doctor or wizard being melee and he has skills in his tree that both increase the chance of health globe drops and their ‘benefit’. So, right there you can see there are ways to increase orb drops, and that’s outside of other leeching type skills, regen skills, etc.
Again, we’re not trying to create an aggravating experience. If it’s a common issue that you have to run around nearly dead hoping and praying for an orb drop, then we probably messed up somewhere. Or maybe you’re terribad at the game. We’ll have to wait and see.

A reply to a fan who had a problem with bringing back the Barbarian:
Fan: I don’t think that they should have brought back the Barbarian. For starters, I’m fairly certain that few if any survived the explosion that tore Mount Arreat apart. Besides that, I’ve always felt that the Barbs are just lame knockoffs of Conan. Their background story isn’t interesting (“I roam the world smashing things” isn’t nearly as interesting as “I am a renegade who cares nothing for the tired laws of the sorcerers” or “there is a dark force stirring in the world and I must restore the balance to the realm of the spirits”), they don’t even look half as cool as the other classes (just take a side-by-side look at the Witchdoctor, Wizard, and the Barbarian, you know I’m right), and they lack personality.

Bashiok: And spotteth twice they the camels before the third hour. And so it came to pass that the masses cried out, “Ye, oh maker of thine games, hath thee unoriginal thought!“ and yea, they slew the souls of they who were without chest armor, and placed they the bits in tiny pots. Then, yea!, cried out the second mass, “Thine creation deviates too greatly from thine origin!“ and they too were slain, and the children were wrought with the grief of their transgressions.

In defense of the Wizard:
Bashiok: In all seriousness - it’s fun. I generally don’t like casters, I prefer melee, but ... it’s just too fun. Meteor Storm feels like ... haha… it feels like firing a machine gun. It’s so fun to fire off I will literally sit there and shoot at nothing just to watch it. And I do this for way too long. Electrocute is a close second. But man… meteor storm. And they just made the effects cooler like last week! Which should have been impossible. Ugh. I love this game.
