Tycoon Games Releases College Romance Visual Novel
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

Tycoon Games recently published College Romance: Rise of the Little Brother. The new visual novel adventure follows the exploits of a young man entering college for the first time. The game features the possibility of romance with one of several NPCs in the game, and a variety of possible storyline endings.

You are just starting your first year at the university where your brother recently graduated. It's your first exposure to college life, your first time living on your own, and possibly your first true romance.

As you explore this world, you can meet:

Jules - A waitress at the cafe that's a year older than you, and works there only part time as she goes to your school the rest of the time. She dreams of a life of travel, but can she be part of your dreams?

Jessica - Jules' twin sister. She works with Jules at the cafe, but has different dreams than her sister for her future. Play the game, and find out why!

Sarah - Her family has just moved to Alta so she can go to the university. She works at a convenience store, has a full load at school, but for you she may be willing to fit some time in for a date.

Teri - A very straightforward young woman who is a long time swimmer. She's also honest enough to make you wonder how she gets along with anyone, besides you.

The demo version of the game introduces you to all of these fascinating characters, while the full version allows you to make choices to pick a future with one or more of them. Multiple paths mean that you can explore a number of good (and bad) endings. Hours of game play as you work your way through each relationship. Download the demo now, or better yet, just go ahead and buy a copy so you don't have to wait to finish the game!
College Romance requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later, contains mild language and has sexual themes, and is recommended for players age 14 and up. The full version costs $14.99, with a downloadable demo available at the site below.

Apple Games Features LEGO Batman
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games has ventured onto the crime ridden streets of Gotham City with an examination of LEGO Batman: The Videogame. In the game players can explore an interactive LEGO Gotham City as Batman and Robin, capturing infamous villains, and even taking control of the villains themselves. Apple's article includes an overview of the game's features, comments from the game's developers, a history of the caped crusader, and lists of tips, tricks, and cheats for the game.

The game employs the same playful sense of humor found in previous LEGO adventures, striking a tone somewhere between the brooding hero of such works as Frank Miller’s “Batman: Year One” (1987) and the campy Batman of the 1960s TV show. The music consists of Danny Elfman’s score from Tim Burton’s hit 1989 film “Batman.”

The storyline, however, would fit the Batman of any era: Groups of villains led by Joker, Riddler, and Penguin have broken out of Arkham Asylum (“An establishment more porous than a tea strainer,” says Alfred) and are devising three separate attacks on Gotham City. As you traverse the game’s 30 levels, which are split equally between the heroes’ and villains’ perspectives, you’ll meet and unlock over 40 characters, including Nightwing, Batgirl, Clayface, Mad Hatter, and more.

“We based the game on ‘LEGO Batman,’ a character derived from a myriad of different individual embodiments across decades of comic books,” explains Smith. “As we’re totally immersed in the LEGO world, that particular definition of this character always felt totally natural to us.”

DC Comics’ input, according to producer Loz Doyle, consisted of “telling us things like ‘This character is likely to work with that character,’ ‘These two would kill each other if they were put together,’ and so on. They also provided a lot of reference materials with detailed backgrounds on all the characters, which helped us create the right animation styles for them.”
