IMG Reviews Dream Pinball 3D 6:23 AM | Marcus Albers | 1 comment
Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Runesoft's modern pinball simulation, Dream Pinball 3D. Featuring 6 different tables and a host of graphical features, the game brings a lot to the table. Here's an excerpt from the review: Dream Pinball offers 6 different tables for your pinball pleasure, with themes ranging from classic horror monsters to emergency rescue helicopters. The tables aren't just flat graphics and lights serving as a background for your ball to run around on. First of all, they're set in a room resembling a fairly well-appointed family basement or an unusually clean and well-lit arcade, and depending on your camera angle, you can see the upright backboard of the table as well, with your score displayed in the usual place. Depending on the theme, various objects are scattered around the perimeter of the table, such as swords, skeletal hands, miniature castles, turtles, helicopters, and so on. Most of them don't serve any game play role, but they remind one of the plastic props found in some of the fancier pinball tables of the past, and add to the overall veracity. The playing surfaces themselves are adorned with the usual targets, lights, bumpers, and ramps, all very well rendered. Follow the link below to read the full review.

New Diablo III Screenshots & Artwork Available 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story
Blizzard Entertainment has posted several new screenshots and pieces of artwork for Diablo III, The company's eagerly anticipated return to the action RPG franchise. The game will allow players to revisit the world of Sanctuary where they must once again take up arms against the demonic forces threatening humanity. From Blizzplanet: The first concept art tells us a few things. It is Caldeum and it is described as a bandit city. It is unknown if the place will be hostile to players or if it is just a market place where adventurers may spend some coins on merchadise and to be able to hire mercenaries (followers). The art is signed by Trent (2007). The second artwork shows the beautiful interiors of a palace with a large central pool. It is signed by Peter Lee (2006). The third artwork shows the entrance to a dungeon, presumably. It is signed by Victor Lee (March 2007). So we are seeing three different concept artists and artwork dating back to 2006 and 2007. The five screenshots show off the female Wizard, the Witch Doctor and the Barbarian in action. The Wizard’s spell graphics is with no doubt awesome. She hurls a lightning bolt across half the screen to hit a target on the other side of the room. The Witch Doctor throws an explosive concoction and up to four fiery pets engage ghostly spellcasters that seem to have been triggered by a trap mechanism that introduces them into the room from the below the ground. The third screenshot shows the Wizard casting a very powerful laser-like beam of fire. It looks more like a continuous redish photon stream that desintegrates anything caught in its path. It covers a large area of the screen. The stream doesn’t stop on the target, it goes through it and continues all the way off the screen. Head over to the links below to check out all the new media.

Myst Online Goes Open Source 6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 4 comments
Cyan Worlds has decided to release Myst Online: Uru Live as open source, including the source code for the servers, client, and tools used to make and maintain the online game. The announcement is the latest development in the troubled history of Myst Online, which was recently dropped from GameTap's lineup. So, Cyan has decided to give make MystOnline available to the fans by releasing the source code for the servers, client and tools for MystOnline as an open source project. We will also host a data server with the data for MystOnline. MORE is still possible but only with the help from fans. This is a bit scary for Cyan because this is an area that we have never gone before, to let a product freely roam in the wild. But we've poured so much into UruLive, and it has touched so many, that we could not just let it whither and die. We still have hopes that someday we will be able to provide new content for UruLive and/or work on the next UruLive. This is also a bit scary for the fans. We realize that this could turn UruLive into the "wild west" and lead to many fractured and diverse MystOnline servers. But it is our hope that with the help of dedicated core fans (if you are reading this, it probably means you) that a safe and secure MystOnline server set (many servers from around the world working together as one) can be created that will let people explore and live in UruLive. Check out the site below for more information.
