6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games has posted a new feature article examining the recently released Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. The stand alone musical rhythm game lets players play as virtual versions of the popular band and features over 40 songs including 25 Aerosmith master tracks. In addition to an overview of the game's features the article includes a history of the band and a list of cheat codes.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith charts the band’s career, from their first official gig at Nipmuc High School to their concerts in Russia, their performance at Super Bowl XXXV, and their induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. You play Perry’s role for all of their hits, from early favorites like “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way” to such latter-day classics as “Rag Doll” and “Mama Kin.”

As in Guitar Hero III, you earn money as you progress through career mode, with four difficulty levels available. You also unlock plenty of content, including playable band members, expanded video interviews (they’re longer versions of the ones that play between career mode’s six segments), bonus songs, customized guitars, and more.

Multi-player mode also makes an encore appearance in the Aerosmith edition of Guitar Hero, allowing you to battle other axe masters or join forces with them online or at the same computer. Engage in a face-off, each of you trying to pull the rock meter in your direction, or lock horns in Battle mode, where well-timed attacks break your opponent’s guitar strings, overload her amplifier, and more. In time for Halloween independent Mac and PC game developer Phelios has released its second game for iPhone and iPod Touch: Whack the Dead Also available for Mac OS X, Whack the Dead was created with the PTK game engine and challenges players to eliminate supernatural creatures in Whack a Mole style.

Whack the Dead is a playful addicting game for iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac. Eliminate the zombies, eery creatures and beings from beyond the grave by whacking them. Grab the grenade to get rid of the bad guys as quickly as possible, freeze them by tapping on a snowman. Find ammunition and other bonuses to help you out and to increase your score. Don't whack the good guys, though! It can be tricky at times because players might find friendly folks and animals around but don't get rid of them. If you do, well, you lose time and points, and you end up whacking the wrong things. Focus on the guys with green skin and a blank look in their eyes.
Whack the Dead for iPhone and iPod Touch is available for $2.99 at the iTunes store located at the link below. A freeware Mac OS X version is also available.

Kivi's Underworld: New Monsters Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Soldak Entertainment has added two new entries to the bestiary for Kivi's Underworld, the company's upcoming action RPG title. Described as a casual hack and slash game, Kivi allows players to adventure as one of 20 character classes against a variety of dangerous foes. The bestiary expands with entries for the violent Dark Elf Warriors and the hidden Shadows.

Dark Elf Warrior:
In a forgotten time the elves were one diverse, surface dwelling race. A question of the heir to the throne divided the empire in two. After unprecedented betrayal and a murder that shook the foundation of elven society at its core, those involved and their supporters were banished from the surface of Aleria. Chased by elementals, this group found a loophole in what was meant to be a death sentence. They fled underground and sealed themselves off from the world above.
Generations passed down bitter hatred for the other elves, but they forgot who did the dispelling. They began to believe they sent the others away. They became dark elves, adapting to the darkness around them. The Goddess Valta found them and nurtured their anger, feeding on their violence and hatred.
Dark elves have no limits of morality. Twisting magic, they attempted creating legions of monsters to hunt down the others, the banished elves. When prospectors dug into dark elf territory looking for large lifestones, the dark elves discovered a new world they had forgotten, ripe for the taking.

Slipping through volatile turmoil at the center of the world, tiny demons infested the underworld. Almost imperceptible, these Shadows are a hidden hazard in the darkest of the dark places. The unseen kills before the danger is ever known.
