Wrath Of The Lich King Coming November 13th

Blizzard Entertainment announced today that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion for its award-winning subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, will arrive in stores on November 13 in North America, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, and Russia, and November 14 in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The expansion will be available in Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau on November 18. Details regarding the launch of Wrath of the Lich King in mainland China will be announced at a later date.

"We're looking forward to launching Wrath of the Lich King and finally giving World of Warcraft players a chance to take on Arthas and his minions," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "Until then, we'll continue to refine and playtest the expansion content to make sure it provides a highly polished and entertaining experience."

World of Warcraft®: Wrath of the Lich King™ sends players to the cold, forbidding continent of Northrend, where the fearsome Lich King Arthas Menethil, last seen in Warcraft® III: The Frozen Throne® , works from his secluded citadel to bring all of Azeroth under his twisted dominion. Players will battle the Lich King's undead army from the shores of Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra to the seat of his unholy power in Icecrown Glacier. In addition, players will be able to advance characters to level 80 and gain powerful new abilities while exploring several new zones and dungeons. The expansion also introduces a number of exciting new features, including an achievement system, expanded player-vs.-player combat options such as siege weapons and destructible buildings, and the game's first Hero class -- the necromantic death knight.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King will be available on DVD-ROM for Macintosh and Windows XP/Windows Vista in two packages: a standard edition, which will sell for a suggested retail price of $39.99, and a special Collector's Edition (in select regions) priced at $69.99. The limited Collector's Edition package will contain the following:
• The Art of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King , a 208-page book featuring never-before-seen images from the game.
• An exclusive in-game pet: Frosty, the baby frost wyrm.
• A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, the Wrath of the Lich King intro cinematic with director's commentary and more.
• The official soundtrack CD, containing 21 epic tracks from the game, along with exclusive bonus tracks.
• A mouse pad featuring a map of the newly opened continent of Northrend.
• Two World of Warcraft Trading Card Game March of the Legion™ , starter decks, along with two exclusive cards available only in the Collector's Edition.

Kivi's Underworld Explored

Fidgit has released a new interview with Soldak Entertainment's Steven Peeler. The Q&A provides more details about Kivi's Underworld, Soldak's next action rpg title. Described as a casual hack and slash game Kivi allows players to adventure as one of 20 character classes against a variety of dangerous foes.

TC: You mention it's designed to be played in 15-30 minutes chunks. Do you get to an "ending" over the course of a play session?
SP: Yes. We have broken the game up into separate adventures that last around 15 to 30 minutes each. So you can play one quick adventure or you can keep playing as many adventures in a row that you want to.

TC: Can you describe a typical play session?
SP: Essentially you decide which adventure you want to play and then choose which character to play. You only have one character available at the very beginning though: Kivi. The other characters become available after you either recruit them in one of your adventures or unlock them in some other manner.
Each adventure usually has one to four quests, where quests can be required, optional, or even unknown. An unknown quest is usually a character that is hidden in a secret area. Now you actually adventure, explore, kill monsters, find secret areas, try to stay alive, and solve the quests. When you have finished all of the required quests for that adventure, assuming you live, you have "beaten" that adventure. When you have beaten an adventure, your final score determines how many skill points you get to spend on your characters. The game also unlocks different things after each adventure like the next adventure (obviously), different awards, bestiary entries, and any characters you recruited during the adventure.
After the adventure you can spend your skill points, look at your awards, look at the bestiary, replay any of the adventures that you have unlocked (for example to get a better score to unlock more skill points), or play the next adventure.

Eschalon Book II: Fun With Weapons And Armor

Basilisk Games has released the tenth installment of its Q&A series featuring answers to fan questions about the upcoming Eschalon: Book II RPG. The latest installment explores the possibility of "armor sets" in Book II and offers up a few tidbits about the kinds of items players will be able to find in the game.

Question #10 [Rune_74] Any chance of getting armor sets in Book II?
We're doing some cool stuff with how weapons and armor pieces are generated in Book II. We're essentially generating items based on rarity levels, material composition, and bonuses which means there are literally thousands of combination of weapons and armor pieces available in the game. This was something we really wanted in Book I but just couldn't get it done in time. In this regard, there are already "armor sets" in the game as you may make it your personal quest to find every piece of chain mail armor that is crafted from Dwarven Steel that can possibly be generated.
Beyond that, I can tell you that there are several matching pieces of "specialty armor" that are being hidden in the game which would constitute as being an armor set, however I have no intention of revealing what they are or what they look like.

id Execs Discuss Rage

Game Informer recently published a new interview with id Software's Tim Willits and Todd Hollenshead. Among other topics the Q&A covers the company's upcoming first person action title, Rage. Set in a post apocalyptic future the game features both vehicular mayhem and first person shooting action .

Q: We’ve got a glut of games that take place in dystopian environments full of brown rocks. What makes Rage stand out from those?
Willits: As Todd said earlier, when we announced the post-apocalyptic setting, people thought of all these other games and movies and stuff. Like the first-person genre, we blaze the trail. The reason that we picked this setting is that it allows us to place the game near enough to the present day to have it familiar with people and have it easy to understand, but set far enough in the future where you can have this sci-fi element to it, which gives us the ability to have these over the top weapons, have some unique gameplay modes and gameplay elements, and we’re not constrained to modern day ballistics or a certain time or a certain place. It gives us the freedom to be more creative.

Todd Hollenshead: Crazier-looking enemies…

Willits: Yeah. So that’s the reason we picked the post-apocalyptic setting.

Q: You mentioned being trailblazers with the shooting. How hard has it been working with the racing portions to make sure they’re up to the same level as what you’re famous for with shooting?
Willits: The racing aspects and the driving aspects are there to support the first-person action core of the game. When we announced the title and some of the things we showed were heavily focused on the vehicle stuff, it was because it was very unique and very new and it showcased some of the very large areas that we have. But the game is not a racing game. And it’s not Twisted Metal done by id Software. It’s a first-person action game. It has more elements of adventure in it, and it has some exploration that’s built up around a much more in-depth story. But at its heart, it’s a first-person shooter.
