Last Man Standing Mod Final Version 4.0 Available

Platinum Arts has released the final version 4.0 of their Last Man Standing Coop Mod. Made for Doom 3, the mod allows players to face off against hordes of monsters in a battle to survive as long as possible. Version 4.0 includes a variety of gameplay improvements and over 20 of the best community created maps.

The long awaited Last Man Standing Co-op 4.0 is released!  This is the final official version of the mod though there has been some talk of others taking the reins.  Here is our feature list:
• Windows (including the steam version), Mac and Linux Compatible
• Over ten new LMS SP Coop easter eggs to find!
• New Map TS_HellPentagram.
• Now features over 80 maps tweaked for Cooperative play!

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of the popular space-based MMORPG EVE: Online from CCP Games and TransGaming Technologies. Here's a bit from the review:

[...] EVE Online plays like most other MMORPGs. You get missions (quests) from agents in various space stations (towns) scattered across the galaxy. They tell you to do things like take items from one station to another, kill a group of enemies, or get an item from a hostile location. You can also patrol asteroid fields in dangerous areas to kill pirates, mine ore and refine it, research blueprints for manufacturing, and produce items from their base ingredients. This is quite like the crafting and quest systems of other MMOs, but EVE does have a few elements that keep the game fresh.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords Reviewed

Macworld's Game Room has posted a new review of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. The game, available for Intel Mac owners, combines elements of the popular match three genre with a role playing game adventure. The Game Room gave Puzzle Quest a score of 3.5 out of 5 mice.

What makes Puzzle Quest unique is that all of the combat involves a “match three” puzzle game, similar to Bejeweled or one of its seemingly infinite number of clones. In Puzzle Quest, there’s a grid-based game board filled with pieces marked with different colors. You pieces one at a time to create a horizontal or vertical line of three or more pieces. Succeed and you’ll collect those pieces; their color corresponds to mana (or magic points) that you can redeem for different magic spells or actions against your enemy. You can also take direct action against your enemy if you’re lucky enough to match three or more skulls on the playing field. There are bonus multipliers, special tokens that give you instant cash or experience, and more. When you can reduce your enemy’s hit points to zero, you win the battle.

There’s a fierce amount of strategy involved in this exercise. On the surface, collecting mana points sounds easy, but it’s vital to understand what your enemy’s defenses are and how to overcome them. Some spells and attacks will work better than others, and you don’t want to leave yourself vulnerable to an attack on the board by making an unwise move. What’s more, if you or your opponent are left with no moves possible on the board, the board resets, and any mana you’ve collected during the preceding moves will drain out.

On The Musical Precipice Of Darkness

GameZone has published a new interview with Jeff Tymoshuk, creator of the music for the upcoming Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. The Q&A offers insight into the creation of the game's music as well as discussion of Tymoshuk's other musical creations.

Penny Arcade is one of the most unique properties around, starting as a comic that mocked our favorite video games. When you heard it was becoming a video game, what are some of the things that went through your head in regards to how it should sound?
Jeff Tymoschuk: My familiarity with the Penny Arcade before getting the gig was pretty limited, but once I found out that I’d be pitching for it I spent a good chunk of time going through the archived strips and reading as much as I could about it. Right away, I found the strip to be really funny, and more than anything else I was curious about what sort of approach the game was going to be taking.
I knew from my conversations with Adam Gejdos (the audio director at Hothead Games) that they were setting it in the 1920s, and were looking for something a little off-center, so my first demos had a bit of a vaudeville jazz feel to them, but with sort of a Muppet Show/Mos Eisley Cantina band take on it. Because the music could’ve gone in so many different directions, I decided to take some of the parameters that I was given and just have a good time with the tunes, rather than over-analyzing how appropriate the music would be for the gameplay. There would be plenty of time for that later! Stylistically, the music in the game ended up being quite a bit different than the demos, but it was a good place to start.

Taunka Join Lich King Bestiary

Blizzard Entertainment has added another race to its Wrath of the Lich King bestiary page. The second expansion for the popular World of Warcraft will feature a variety of new creatures for players to encounter including the Taunka, a hearty race of Northrend dwellers believed to be the ancestral cousins of the tauren.

This tenacious, stoic race knows all too well the rigors of living in the harsh and often deadly wastes of Northrend. Over time, the taunka - whom many believe to be ancestral cousins of the tauren - have adapted, but only by forcing the land and the elements to yield to their will. The taunka's relationship with nature, unlike that of their tauren brethren, has been one of constant struggle and grim perseverance.

Although the taunka may seem dour or even cold to outsiders, those who come to know them will soon recognize an embattled race of survivors characterized by colossal hearts and unshakable resolve.
