Xeventh Project Releases Eternal X Marathon Scenario

The Xeventh Project has announced the release of Eternal X, a Marathon scenario nearly twelve years in the making. Available for the open source Aleph One engine, the scenario project features 52 levels, an improved interface, new music, new weapons, and new creatures.

The longest-running Marathon scenario project in history, Eternal began production in 1996 upon the release of Marathon Infinity. Eventually run into the ground and then dormant for many years, it was resurrected in 2004 just in time for a "penultimate" release on Marathon's 10th anniversary, which received over ten thousand downloads. For the past several years since then, a crack team of some of the Marathon community's most skilled artists, musicians, and cartographers has been busy putting the final polish on this ancient project; and now, at long last, Eternal X is complete.

Featuring 52 huge levels, hundreds of new high-resolution textures, over a dozen tracks of original music, a wholly revamed user interface, all new weapons, and several new creatures and characters, alongside the complete cast from the original trilogy and numerous familiar locations, Eternal is one of the largest and most ambitious Marathon scenario projects ever undertaken.

The story of Eternal begins nearly one hundred years after Marathon Infinity, on the S'pht moon K'lia, hanging in orbit over a desolate and ruined Earth. Clearly all is not well with this future, and once again you are the last hope for mankind. The people of this time say that nobody really won in the war with the Pfhor; but now, thanks to recovered Jjaro technology, a plan has been devised to make things right. Paired with another sort of hybrid creature, the former Battleroid known as Hathor, you have been selected to venture back across time, one hundred and eleven years in the past to the U.E.S.C. Marathon. There, you and Hathor are to set in motion a plan that will alter the course of history and bring true victory to mankind. But things don't always go according to plan, and what begins as a mission to right history turns into an epic pursuit which spans not only the stars but also the centuries.
The scenario is available in both a Full Edition, complete with high-resolution graphics and an original soundtrack, and a Lite Edition, which is more amenable to older computers and slower connections. Both the Full Edition and Lite Edition are compatible with all currently supported platforms of Aleph One, including Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

iGame Radio Features Neon Tango

Recently on iGame Radio host Omaha Sternberg reviewed Freeverses new shooter Neon Tango, available exclusively for the Mac. The action shooter features 50 stages, state-of-the-art OpenGL graphics, and a soundtrack from Digital Droo. IGame Radio's latest podcast also features an interview with Tom Pearce, Audio Director of Streamline Sound.

Streamline Sound was announced in the past few weeks as a joint venture between Streamline Studios, an independent game developer, and Black Hole Recordings, an independent music publisher. Envisioned as a one stop solution for game developers to contract music created for their games and then exploit that music in non-traditional ways, Streamline Sound is also intended to bridge the gap between traditional music publishers and game developers so that musicians can get their music into games. Omaha chats with Tom Pearce about how the venture got started, how it will help everyone, and where it is going from here.

Plus, a review of minimalist arcade-style shooter Neon Tango by Freeverse. Released in February, Neon Tango takes geometric shapes and interesting colors and blends them together for true arcade shooting fun.

Blizzard Takes A Stand Against Gold Purchasing In WoW

Blizzard Entertainment has posted a statement detailing the company's reasons for working to prevent gold purchasing for its popular MMO, World of Warcraft. The statement explains the impact of gold purchasing and power leveling services on the game's economy, as well as the real life dangers of identity theft and account closure.

We would like to make a clear statement here about the negative impact of buying gold and using power-leveling services. Every day, we encounter players who have been negatively affected and targeted by companies offering these services. So, we hope to raise awareness about the practices they engage in and the detrimental effects they have on all players, including their own customers, as well as on the game environment as a whole.

What many people don't realize when buying gold is the large impact it has on the game economy, and also how the companies selling gold obtain it. Our developers, in-game support, and anti-hack teams work diligently to stop the exploits these companies use and help players who have become victims of their services. We regularly track the source of the gold these companies sell, and find that an alarmingly high amount comes from hacked accounts. These are the friends, relatives, and guildmates you may know who have gone through the experience of having characters, gold, and items stripped from them after visiting a website or opening a file containing a trojan virus. Our teams work to educate players and assist them in avoiding account compromise, but the fact remains that the players themselves are often these companies' largest target as a source for gold, which the companies then turn around and sell to other players.

Stunt Playground Comes To Mac

The open source Stunt Playground was recently ported to the Mac. The 3D stunt driving game offers realistic physics and allows users to set up their own stunt tracks with a variety of props and jumps. The game features an open ended "sandbox style" of play, instant replays, creation of custom maps, and a collection of 8 vehicles from which to choose.

Stunt Playground is a fully 3D stunt driving game that features extremely realistic physics that are fully integrated into both the driving, and the editor as well. this means you can arrange the various props and jumps in any way imaginable. of course you can save and load your creations for later as well.
While driving you can also record "instant replays" up to 15 seconds in length, and then playback your stunt from any angle. you can even save/load these replays, so your friends will believe you!

The game features impressive 3D graphics including realtime shadows and reflections.
