GameTap Closes Myst Online: Uru Live
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 5 comments

In a recent post on the Myst Online website, GameTap's Ricardo Sanchez announced that Myst Online: Uru Live will be closed down. Although the servers will eventually be shut down permanently, Myst Online will be available to both existing players and new visitors for 60 days. The official website will remain active for fans to continue to "share their passion for this important game franchise."

The decision was a very difficult one and was made for business reasons rather than due to any issues regarding the design and vision of the amazing world that Cyan Worlds and Rand Miller have brought to us. Despite the great Myst Online experience coming to a close, Cyan is still a very valued partner of GameTap, we are on excellent terms, and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.

Many of you have made good friends while playing Myst Online, so here is the bittersweet part. Although Myst Online: Uru Live will be completely shut down in the near future, the game servers will remain live for the next 60 days. During that time, both newcomers and existing players can continue to experience the amazing world of Myst Online, explore the game's many Ages, and interact with other players in the game and on the website and forums. After 60 days, the title will be removed from the GameTap service, though will remain live and active for fans to continue to share their passion for this important game franchise.

Apple Games Features Block Breaker Deluxe
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Apple Games has released a new feature article, this one focusing on Block Breaker Deluxe for Apple's iPod multimedia device. The game features classic arcade brick bashing action in a variety of jet-set nightlife settings. The article includes an overview of the game's features as well as a tips and tricks for brick bashing mastery.

Each of the game’s five main locations features 10 levels of increasingly-difficult brick-breaking action that earns you money, depending on your success. You’ll come across a variety of bricks, such as explosive ones that destroy all the bricks around them, switches that bring a new set of bricks onto the screen, bonus bricks that drop power-ups, and more. The power-ups you can activate include lasers, multi-ball, an energy shield that bounces back balls that miss your pad, a magnet for catching and releasing balls, and more. And don’t forget to grab the gift contained in each level; collect all of them to unlock secret areas, such as the tournament arena.

Those 10 levels are followed by a battle against a boss, such as Club 22’s disco ball, which shoots lasers at you every time you strike it with the ball. Defeat the boss and you’ll unlock a new location. Before you head there, visit James’ shop, where you can buy extra lives, power-up upgrades, or any missing gifts. And for a cool $1.5 million, you can buy The Siren, which generates a random level any time you want to play a quick game of Block Breaker Deluxe.

Lich King: Inscription, Death Knights, And PvP
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Computer and Video Games has posted the second part of a new Wrath of the Lich King preview. The article examines the the new features in the next expansion for the popular World of Warcraft, including the new Inscription profession and the expanded PvP offerings.

For a start, there's a new profession: Inscription. With this, Blizzard are looking to buck the trend of adding stats or useable items, describing Inscription as "Enchanting for spells and abilities," reinventing the wheel in the process.

"The idea behind it is to give players even more specialisation options beyond the talent trees," explains Kaplan in a manner that would bamboozle the WOW-phobic to death." As a possible example, a mage could have their Frost Nova enhanced for either greater range or longer snare duration - our intention is to provide viable options rather than one 'best' Inscription for each modifiable spell or ability."

This, in less complex terms, means that there's potential to differentiate characters here way beyond the 10 extra talent points that players are already looking forward to...

Another group of WOW players due to feel some love are those who like to knock bells out of each other - the PvP fraternity. "The major PvP addition will be Lake Wintergrasp, an entire non-instanced zone in Northrend dedicated to world PvP," continues Jeff while miming an axe motion.

"We're taking what we've learned from world PvP objectives in the Old World and Outland and building on that to provide some truly epic warfare. Players will be able to use siege weapons to assault the other faction's buildings, and earn faction-wide buffs by completing objectives and gaining dominance in the zone." And destructible buildings at that.
