StarCraft II: Q&A Round 28
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertaiment has released the 28th update to its series of answers to fan questions about the upcoming StarCraft II. The sequel to the still popular original StarCraft, SC II will introduce new multiplayer action and pick up the Zerg, Terran, and Protoss storylines a few years after the end of BroodWar.

Gameplay Blog: Following up on the last game I played in Batch 27, I had mentioned the Terran Marauder being a huge factor in my defeat. This new Terran unit visually looks similar to the Firebat, but instead packs the punch of dual Concussion Grenades (also able to be Stim Packed), which slows the movement rate of biological units, and also does additional bonus damage to armored units. These units are excellent at supporting any pack of Marines & Medics, with the ability to slow charging Zealots, as well as fast moving Zerg units. Playing as Terran, there is a sense of relief, when you watch an incoming army slowed down considerably, to be mowed down by your Stim Packed Marines. In addition, because the Marauders are able to be built at a Barracks with a Tech Lab, they are considered formidable early support units, able to pick off units of a weaker early game army.

5. Now that the Force Field ability has been moved to the Nullifier, what other abilities does the Templar have? Does he still have Hallucination? ( Blazur)
The Hallucination ability has been cut from the High Templar. Instead, it will have an Anti-Gravity ability in addition to its classic Psi Storm ability. This ability will allow a High Templar to lift up buildings and units in the air, disabling their movement and attack, while also making them an air target. This ability can be cast on Supply Depots blocking choke points, as well as incoming Thors, or other threatening units. This has been the first ability the Devs have been comfortable with, in giving players a real choice to be made, to use Psi Storm or the Anti-Gravity ability. This ability is still being balanced, in terms of the duration units and buildings will stay in the air, energy cost, and if it will be a channeling spell (which means the High Templar will be unable to move or cast other abilities while casting the Anti-Gravity ability).

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos. Here's a clip from the review:

So how does Interpol: The Trail of Doctor Chaos compare to this genre's competition? It's got good puzzles, graphics, music, and decent atmosphere. But looking for items has no real purpose other than searching puzzles. Does The Trail of Doctor CHASO bringing anything new to the genre? No, just more puzzles which may be enough for the puzzle game enthusiast.

Previewing The Lore Of The Lich King
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Computer and Video Games has posted the first part of a new Wrath of the Lich King preview. The article examines the lore surrounding the next expansion for the popular World of Warcraft, focusing on the fallen paladin fans love to hate: Arthas.

One of the most amazing things about World of Warcraft is how well its backstory ties in with Blizzard's Warcraft RTS games. The level of detail in its stories and characters, and they way they all interact, is astonishing.

So a working knowledge of Warcraft III may not give absolute meaning to your endless monster killing, but at least makes you feel part of a glorious whole.
CVG promise the next part of the preview will reveal all new information about Wrath of the Lich King.

Pirates Online Update To Add Customization Options & Emotes
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

This month, Pirates of the Caribbean Online players will be able to give their customized Pirate avatars a whole new look. Disney Online will introduce tattoo parlors, jewelry stores, and tailor shops to offer a variety of new character customization options to players. New additions to the game will also include character emotes, an updated player matching system, and an improved quest tracking system.

Adding to the already extensive character creation system, Disney Online will introduce new customization options including new hairstyles, tattoos and jewelry and clothing, including three brand-new coats inspired by members of the Brethren Court.

Tattoo parlors, jewelry stores, and tailor shops will be added and, also as part of the Avatar Customization update, Disney Online will add the first round of “emotes” to the game. Emotes give players a whole new way of communicating by allowing players’ avatars to do a variety of actions including dancing, laughing, clapping, and celebrating.

Disney Online has also made changes to the Lookout System – an in-game system that matches players up with others looking to engage in the same activity. Players can now instantly see their percentage of finding a match (high, medium, or low) to help determine how long it will take before a match is found. Players can also now get more closely matched with other players that are at the same notoriety level as themselves.

In addition, Disney Online has also made enhancements to the Quest tracking system. Now when players are in the “return to townsperson” stage of completing a Quest, they simply must follow the ray of light and the yellow arrow at their feet to return to their townsperson.

Disney Online has additional content planned for 2008 including expanding ship customization, extending quest story lines, and adding more enemies and challenges.

The Broken Hourglass: Spell Battle
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Planewalker Games has conjured up a new article about the use of magic in The Broken Hourglass, the developer's yet to be released party based RPG. The feature gives a blow-by-blow look at two mages trading spells, with explanation of why they choose to cast certain spells in certain situations.

All casters in The Broken Hourglass are allowed (indeed, encouraged) to have protective spells up on themselves and/or their party at all times, because most beneficial, protective ("buff") spells can be cast as indefinite hanging enchantments. That means they are only dispelled when the party rests, or when the caster chooses to release them, or when the caster dies--they do not have a set, limited "duration".

Kamberus suspects that he's going to have company, so he decides to invest 25 mana in a fire elemental summon to help keep enemies occupied.

Knowing that they will be facing a pyromancer, Ceyda anticipates that there is good reason to be concerned about receiving fire-related damage. Therefore, she decides to put 15 mana into a Fire Damage Resistance spell and casts it on herself. Ceyda will get about 16% resistance against all fire damage as a result--remember, armor protects against physical damage as well as physical magics, but it is useless against elemental magic. Ceyda is also wearing a special pair of magical goggles which boosts her Perception score considerably (Ceyda once lost a friend to an unseen assassin, so is very worried about hidden assailants.) Wielding the magic in the goggles costs Ceyda 10 mana.

Finally, knowing that she will be sending Gemma against the pyromancer, Ceyda decides to try to give Gemma a strike-first, strike-fast edge. She crafts an aeromantic attribute bonus spell with 20 mana and casts it on Gemma. This gives Gemma an agility bonus, as Air Magic is tied to the Agility primary attribute. This will also give Gemma an advantage in all of her agility-related secondary abilities, such as defensive skills and combat speed.
