StarCraft II: Q&A Round 11, Thor Info

A new round of answers to fan questions about the upcoming StarCraft II is now available on Blizzard Entertainment's StarCraft forum. The eleventh Q&A offers a few more bits of information about the sequel to the original StarCraft. SC II will introduce new multiplayer action and pick up the Zerg, Terran, and Protoss storylines a few years after the end of BroodWar.

3) Will the Terrans be weak to melee without the Firebat?

Dont worry, the Terrans will have plenty of other counters to melee units. Nonetheless, because we know there are so many people who do love the Firebat unit, it will be in the map editor.

4) Will Mutalisks attack still hit multiple targets?

Yes, the Zerg Mutalisk unit is currently designed to hit multiple units with a single attack.

5) Will a submerged supply depot still be able to be attacked? Will it have more hit points while submerged?

Yes, the submerged supply depot will still be able to be attacked, and no it will not have more hit points. The ability to submerge a supply depot is designed to allow units to move over them strategically. Players will not only be able to keep enemies out, allow friendly units to pass through, but they are also powerful roadblocks in separating incoming armies in 2.
Blizzard has also added another Terran unit, the Thor, to the showcase on its official webasite. The site update includes a brief description of the unit and animated examples of the unit in action.

Magic Stones Post Mortem

A recent Winter Wolves blog post offers a post mortem examination of the hybrid RPG/card game, Magic Stones. The blog offers insight into the design of the game and the tools used in its crafting as well as an examination of what went right and what went wrong during development.

I always liked the idea of making a fantasy-card game, so I started to outline the basic idea on a piece of paper. Yes planning was essential in this kind of game, I knew it from the start (and luckily I did it).

I decided to base everything on celtic mythology, so I first started to do some research both in local library and also on the net. Found the celtic runes and thought to assign to each one of them a spell or a summoned avatar in the game. I divided the runes into 4 elements (the classic air, water, fire and earth) even if their original meaning is a bit different (but hey is just a game!).

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars Online Play Enabled

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, one of EA's recently announced Cider powered games, has been updated to version 1.08. The patch enables online play for the RTS, allowing gamers to take their GDI, Nod, or Scrin units and wage war against both Mac and PC users.

- This patch will enable online play so you can take your GDI, Nod, or Scrin units and wage war against all Mac and PC users!
- Makes a specific fix to the Scrin Mothership unit. There will now be an 8 second delay to fire with the Mothership after it has deployed.

Penny Arcade Adventures Previewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment recently posted a preview of Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, an upcoming Hothead Games adventure game based on the characters from the Penny Arcade comic strip. The episodic adventure will allow players to create a character and step into an adventure with Tycho and Gabe.

Each character wields a unique weapon that can also be upgraded. Tycho packs a gun, Gabe goes monk-style with his bare fists, and the character you create uses the rake you begin the game with (yes, a lawn rake). The attack animations we watched for each character were both entertaining and brutal. We watched one fight where Gabe punched an enemy hobo into pieces. Did we mention that this game is shooting for a Mature rating?

The storyline, at least what has been presented so far, takes the same light tone as the comic strip. Your character is simply raking leaves when his (or her) house is destroyed by a large robot, leaving him homeless and out for revenge. Along the way you meet Tycho and Gabe and thus get wrapped up in an incredible adventure. If that sounds ridiculous, that's because it is. After all, the story and writing all comes from the heads of Penny Arcade creators Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik, and, by virtue of its source, the text in the game -- of which there is a lot because the game has no voice acting for Tycho and Gabe -- is crass, crude, and vulgar in all the right ways. Seriously, the room must have burst out into laughter during the demo at least a good dozen times.
