WoW: Wrath Of The Lich King Revealed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 4 comments

Blizzplanet has discovered what appears to be confirmation of Blizzard Entertainment's next expansion for the ever popular World of Warcraft. A recent United States Patent and Trademark Office listing reveals the game's title as Wrath of the Lich King. This revelation follows on the heels of a similar listing on Germany's USK, an ESRB counterpart.

For months, and almost daily in the past weeks I have been camping the US Patents and Trademarks Office website and the Legendary Pictures website. Around 3am, no updates had appeared. Early today Thursday at 6am EST, I searched through the Blizzard Entertainment copyrights page at US Patent and Trademark Office Website. It is official. The title confirms the next expansion is based on the Northrend Continent.
Head over to Blizzplanet at the link below to read more.

Update: Wrath of the Lich King is now official. Check out the official site at the link below.

Here's a bit more about it from Blizzard's site:

In the cold, harsh northlands...
The Lich King Arthas has set in motion events that could lead to the extinction of all life on Azeroth. With the armies of the undead and the necromantic power of the plague threatening to sweep across the land, only the mightiest heroes can oppose the Lich King's will and end his reign of terror for all time.

Blizzard Entertainment's latest expansion to World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King – adds a host of epic content to the existing game world. Players will achieve soaring levels of power, explore a vast new continent, and battle other high-level heroes to determine the fate of Azeroth. As you pit yourself against the dangers of the north, prepare to:

-Master the necromantic powers of the Death Knight - World of Warcraft's first Hero class.
-Quest to level 80, gaining potent new abilities and talents along the way.
-Learn the craft of spell augmentation with the new Inscription profession.
- Brave the harsh new continent of Northrend, the icy domain of the Lich King.
- Engage in epic siege warfare, deploying mighty siege engines to lay waste to destructible buildings in your path.
- Transform your hero's look with new character-customization options, including new hairstyles and dances.
- Explore perilous new dungeons filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on Azeroth.
Blizzard has not yet announced the expansion's release date. Keep an eye on IMG for updates.

Inside Mac Games Reviews CrazyCrystals
6:36 AM | Marcus Albers | 3 comments

Inside Mac Games has posted a review for the casual game CrazyCrystals. The color-matching game is in the vein of the classic Bejeweled. Is it a sparkling gem, or a lump of coal? Here's a bit from the review:

As you play, a thermometer style gage at the bottom of the playfield drains. As sets of jewels are cleared, the gage refills with the amount of the refill dependent on the level of difficulty of the game and how many jewels you’ve managed to clear out with your last move. Drain the gage, and game over! Allow the grid to fill completely, and game over! As the game progresses, more colors and shapes of crystals are added, further complicating the situation.

Star Wars: Empire At War Reviewed
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Macworld's Game Room recently posted a new review of Star Wars: Empire at War, a strategy title which puts players in control of ground and space warfare in the Star Wars universe. Set during the time period of the original move trilogy, Empire at War lets players join the Empire or Rebellion in a struggle to conquer the galaxy. The Game Room gave the game a score of 4 out of 5 mice.

If you’ve played strategy games long enough you’re undoubtedly familiar with the concept of the Hero unit—he or she imbues your forces with special attack or defense capabilities. And Petroglyph , the developer of this game, has carried over that functionality with Hero units that will be instantly familiar to Star Wars fans: Darth Vader, Han Solo and Chewie and so forth (even R2-D2 and C3PO make appearances). While your Heros greatly bolster your forces as they go into combat, your opponent can counter with bounty hunters, who will take them out—obviously, to keep the mythology intact, not permanently, but long enough to turn the tide of battle against you. Some of the special units you can create as you amass credits and build additional installations are really imaginative—imagine sending in a Rancor to pummel an enemy squadron, for example.

RTS games can often get bogged down in micromanagement as resource manipulation and engineering become important factors in building your armadas or your armies. Empire at War is no different. Interstellar resource management takes a bit of getting used to, especially compared to the very approachable skirmish mode, and frankly, I was lost a bit at the beginning as I stepped through the tutorial. Fortunately, a tutorial is provided to help you get the basics, and it really does help. You’ll discover that each side in this conflict has strengths and weaknesses. The Empire, for example, is fantastic when it comes to material output and production, and can raise lots of money very quickly. The Rebellion, by necessity, has to rely more on subterfuge, spying and so on, and does that very well. A technology tree and other comparative strengths and weaknesses between forces is outlined in a map that Aspyr provides along with the documentation.
