Inside Mac Games Reviews Ouba: The Great Journey
6:41 AM | Marcus Albers | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of the color-matching game Ouba: The Great Journey. Here's a clip from the review:

Like all good journeys we need to start off optimistic. To begin, the graphics in the game were well done, albeit limited. All of the different blocks were colorful and easy to recognize and had nine different looks to them from shiny rectangular gems, ruined stones, or emblazoned with different elemental emblems. Which turned out to be a real nice variety to keep the look of the game fresh. The Ouba’s themselves were cute and once they reached the bottom their victory animations made me chuckle a few times, but because of the limited animations it doesn’t take long to tune them out.

New Owner & Price for A-OK! The Wings of Mercury
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | 3 comments

A-OK! The Wings of Mercury, the popular space flight simulator for Windows and Mac OS X, has a new price of $39.95, a new user forum for virtual Mercury astronauts, and a new owner, Apogee Development, Ltd. A new maintenance release, version 3.8, is also available.

“A-OK! The Wings of Mercury has been around for over 12 years, constantly evolving and improving,” noted Joseph Nastasi, lead developer of the product. “Under our new company, Apogee Development, Ltd., we will be expanding the program and it’s market.”

“Our first order of business is to lower the price to allow more space enthusiasts the opportunity to own the program,” Mr. Nastasi concluded.

User Forum
Responding to user requests, Apogee Development has created “Hanger S” a forum for users of A-OK! The Wings of Mercury and others interested in the early space program. The name “Hanger S” refers to a hanger at Cape Canaveral where the astronauts trained and stayed before a mission.

New Version
Version 3.8 has a number of bug fixes and improvements. Most notably for Windows users, Apple’s QuickTime for Windows is no longer required to run the program.

UniSudoku 1.7 Released
6:00 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

UniSudoku 1.7, a puzzle game for OS X, is now available for download. The changes include a new statistics sidebar, checkboxes for each number completed in a puzzle, number tracking, and improved puzzle difficulty consistency.

Among the changes is a new statistics sidebar that lets you compare your current time with the best and average times for the current level of difficulty. Also there are checkboxes for each number you have completed in the puzzle. Click the checkbox to quickly highlight all instances of that number in the puzzle. Track the number of given, completed, and remaining squares in the puzzles. And finally there is some improved consistency with the puzzle difficulties. The Hard and Very Hard levels are a bit more difficult as a result.

Sudoku has been gaining immense popularity in the last couple of years due to its addictive nature and the unique satisfaction achieved when playing and solving the puzzles. As a traditional pencil and paper puzzle the challenge in bringing it to the Mac is to keep the flow and simplicity of the pencil and paper version while adding benefits of computer play such as unlimited puzzle generation, ease of Undo/Redo, neatness of computer interface versus handwriting, highlighting of digits, rotating board, timing game, and when desired providing help with the game such as marking incorrect answers and automatically updating possibles for empty squares. UniSudoku has enjoyed popularity so far due to its balanced implementation of the above concerns.

The full version of UniSudoku costs $15 and requires OS X 10.3.9 or higher. Follow the links below to download the latest version and learn more about the game.

The Sims Pool Released For iPod

Apple has added another title to its growing collection of games for fifth generation iPods. The latest game, The Sims Pool from EA, allows players to create their own Sims and play pool in several modes such as 9-ball, 8-ball, or trick shot mode.

The game makes use of EA’s popular The Sims game franchise; you can customize your player, then select a game mode such as 9-ball or 8-ball, or trick shot mode. The iPod’s Click Wheel lets you set cue ball position, angle and spin, adjust power and shoot. The game sports accurate pool physics and sound effects, too.
The game costs $4.99 and can be purchased from the iTunes store.
