Freeverse Releases Tiki Magic Mini Golf

Freeverse and Mondo Robot yesterday announced the release of Tiki Magic Mini Golf for the Mac. Developed using the Unity game development tool, Tiki Magic offers 54 holes spanning three unique courses. Players can enjoy the game solo or play against up to five friends.

Sink putts and collect special gem bonuses on three challenging courses; the tropical paradise of Lono's Lagoon, the mysterious Lost Temple, and the volcano heart of Fire Mountain! You can play solo, or against up to five friends for the full tiki party experience. Tiki Magic features "Sweet Shot" replays, an awesome soundtrack, emotive totem masks, and a few crazy powerups just to keep things interesting.

Ian Lynch Smith, President of Freeverse said, "We're very pleased to be publishing Mondo Robot's beautiful new mini golf game. Tiki Magic really showcases the next generation of 'made on Mac' games. Plus, it's totally fun, even if I can't sink a putt to save my life!"
Tiki Magic Mini Golf is priced at $29.95. More information and a fully playable demo are available at the Freeverse website. System requirements include OS X 10.3.9 or later and a 32MB graphics card, (Intel GMA 950 chipsets in MacBooks are also supported).

After being taken down by an apparent server outage and plagued by numerous bugs and security problems, the Myth games community, PlayMyth is back. The revitalized PlayMyth will bring back the forums first, followed by user registration, and other features. According to the update, the website should be back to full functionality within the next few weeks.

Brad Custer, IMG's hard-working desktop artist, is back from a well-deserved vacation with a new pic today. This week's desktop should be appreciated by fans of Need for Speed: Carbon, as it depicts the upcoming title from Electronic Arts. Here's a clip from his update:

Our recent sneak preview and the announcement that Need for Speed: Carbon from Electronic Arts was racing to the Macintosh this month, my inbox has been flooded with a lot of requests. I picked a great time to return from my summer vacation and it was just in time to honor your mail wanting a desktop for Need for Speed: Carbon. It's not often that I get to feature fast cars and beautiful women in a desktop so when I have the chance I jump at it. I was able to create this week's wallpaper with the help of Electronic Arts. I simply entitled this selection, "Carbon", and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. :)

Virtual Programming Updates Several Games

Virtual Programming has announced the release of new Universal Binary updates for Europa Universalis 2, Hearts of Iron 2, Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday, and Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday Armageddon. The new updates include stability fixes, third party mod fixes, and auto detection of future updates.

Virtual Programming also released updates for Reel Deal Casino High Roller, Reel Deal Slots Mystic Forest and the online application Online Casino. The updates fix a variety of bugs and prepare the online services for the upcoming Reel Deal Card Games

Those who purchased any of the above games from Deliver2Mac should download the update from the Deliver2Mac service. Those bought elsewhere can download the updates from the Virtual Programming website.

Using Deployables In Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

The official community site for the upcoming Enemy Territory: Quake Wars recently posted a new article explaining the uses and strategies surrounding deployables in the game. Quake Wars is an online multi-player, team-based shooter that will travel back in time to the Strogg invasion of Earth, the catalyst for the Quake series. The forces of Earth will face off against the evil Strogg in a violent struggle for survival

As you may have noticed, ETQW is several games at once, nested within each other, simultaneous and interlinked. Something we set out to avoid was the combat falling into separate infantry v infantry, vehicle v vehicle and deployable v deployable battles. If nothing else, the very fact that you canít complete objective while inside a vehicle forces the action to centre on infantry combat. The different class roles should let you play most of the time at the speed and range of your choice so donít just run directly at the enemy, shouting, unless you really want to, because youíll die. But whether youíre a twitch-kill close-in DeathMatcher, a lone wolf long-range sniper or a selfless support mensch going wherever youíre needed, youíll need to know how ETQWís deployables work, how your enemies are going to use them, and how you can win the deployables sub-game.

Firstly, a quick recap of who can deploy what deployable. The GDF Engineer and Strogg Constructor deploy Defence Turrets like the Anti-Personnel Turret (APT) which targets enemy infantry but not vehicles, the Anti-Vehicle Turret (AVT) which targets enemy vehicles but not infantry and the Artillery Interceptor Turret (AIT) which stops all enemy artillery except for Airstrikes or Orbital Strikes.

The GDF Field Ops and Strogg Oppressor call in Artillery deployables such as the Artillery Gun and Rail Howitzer which can pound a wide area with a prolonged barrage, the Rocket Artillery and Plasma Mortar which can swiftly saturate a point target with a rapid salvo and can even lock on to enemy vehicles (yes, that means Air vehicles too), and then thereís the Hammer Launcher/Dark Matter Cannon which will generally splurge everything in a wide area but takes a while to reload. Remember, any of these will be defeated by a functioning enemy Artillery Interceptor Turret so make sure the enemyís AITís are disabled before they eat up your precious firepower. Mmm...NOM NOM NOM.

New Open Beta Patch For Knights Of The Old Republic

Aspyr Media has posted a new open beta patch for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. This latest patch brings the version number to 1.0.3d and is intended to make the game playable on Intel based Macs.

The previous version, 1.0.3c, is also still available for those who need to revert to the older open beta patch. Head over to at the link below to download the patch.
