IMG Feature: Mac Games For 2007
12:58 PM | Tuncer Deniz | 11 comments

Inside Mac Games has posted a new feature called Mac Games For 2007. Are you wondering what hot, new Mac games you should be looking out for 2007. The feature covers games from publishers big and small, as well as independent developers.

Here's a clip from the review:

Most of the new titles from the large publishers will be universal binaries, meaning that they will run well on both PowerPC and the new Intel Macs (as long as your Mac meets game system requirements). Prior to purchase, all titles should be verified for compatibility with your hardware by checking the system requirement on the package. Note that Intel Mac-only games will not run on older PowerPC Macs (G5s, Powerbooks, iBooks, and PPC based iMacs). I don't anticipate this being an issue for at least another year with my fingers crossed.

The focus of this feature will be on the major titles that are currently in development and scheduled for a 2007 release. Some title are about to be released and may be available when this feature is published.

Redline Reviewed
8:24 AM | Cord Kruse | 1 comment

Macworld's Game Room has posted a review of Ambrosia Software's Redline. The auto racing sim features a variety of real world vehicles, simulation and arcade modes, and online play. The Game Room gave Redline a score of 3.5 out of 5 mice.

From the review:

Redline emphasizes real-world driving conditions when it’s working in the Simulation mode. Don’t expect to take hairpin turns at 200 miles an hour without suffering major problems. On the other hand, if all you want to do is carom around the track like a pinball, the Arcade and Turbo Arcade modes dampen down the realism in favor of fun.

There are several different racing modes in Redline. You can step through a series of challenges—slaloming around cones, for example, or executing an S turn correctly—in order to unlock newer and more powerful car models. You can also try to turn in the fastest time on the different tracks by putting the cars you’ve unlocked through Time Trials. If all you want to do is just go head to head with some computer controlled opponents, there’s Quick Race. And Multiplayer lets you take on comers on the same network or over the Internet.

Penny Arcade Adventures Gameplay Footage
8:24 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

A recent Joystiq article revealed the first gameplay footage of Penny Arcade Adventures: On The Rain-Slick Precipice Of Darkness. Developed by Hothead Games, the episodic adventure for Mac and PC will focus on the adventures of Gabe and Tycho.

Though Gabe and Tycho look somewhat uncomfortable in their polygonal bodies, the first footage of Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness: Episode One indicates a promising video game debut for the webcomic duo. Not much regarding the nature of the gameplay can be extracted at this point, but it's fair to say that punching, shooting and the heinous violation of fruit will almost certainly come into play.
