Fallout MMORPG in the Works?
11:22 AM | Cord Kruse | 13 comments

According to information provided in a recent SEC filing Interplay plans to release a new massively multiplayer online game based on the Fallout RPG series. While no mention of a Mac version is yet made, the game is scheduled to start production in January 2007 and is tentatively planned for a 2010 release.

o This Prospectus proposes sale of Interplay Entertainment Corp common stock which will be admitted to trade on one of the Euronext exchanges. Proceeds will be used for the production of a Massively Multiplayer On Line Game based on Interplay's Intellectual Property: Fallout (the "Fallout MMOG")

o The Fallout MMOG will be developed in the highly recognized Fallout post Nuclear Apocalyptic world giving consumers an ongoing virtual experience of today's life as if the cold war, which lasted for the best part of the second half of last century, had led to a nuclear disaster

o The budget for the Fallout MMOG totals $75,000,000 and will be funded by Interplay, its development and distribution partners.

Whether or not an online version of Fallout can help the beleaguered Interplay resurrect itself remains to be seen.

The Sims 2: Pets Reviewed
11:22 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Computer and Video Games has released a new review of The Sims 2: Pets, the latest expansion for The Sims 2. In addition to adding a variety of new pets for players to introduce into their games the expansion also offers new features like the Build-A-Pet option and pet career opportunities. CVG gave Pets a score of 7.2 out of 10.

From the review:

The Sims 2 engine, which no longer restricts movement to tiles, means that dogs and cats can move about with a modicum of realism instead of running only at 90- degree angles like some demented autistic creature. The ability to customise your human characters has been applied to the pets too. Dogs can be big or small and of a wide variety of breeds, and if recreating the household pet is something you want to spend your time doing, you can tweak things such as hair colour, type, patterns, patches and even those funny moustache bits some dogs have.

Tis the Season for Sims 2
11:22 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

EA has recently announced the impending arrival of yet another expansion for the series that never seems to end, The Sims 2. Titled The Sims 2 Seasons, this latest effort allows EA's virtual entities to experience the four seasons in all their glory, complete with weather effects and activities dependent on nature's yearly cycle.

Head outdoors for year-round fun with your Sims! New seasonal activities await your Sims including snowball fights, chasing fireflies, jumping in leaf piles, and more. Strengthen family ties in Winter, let romance bloom in Spring, deepen the bonds of friendship in Summer, or fast-track your career in Fall. Your Sims can now explore new careers and master new talents throughout the year, but beware freezing, sunburn, sneezing, and other unexpected weather effects! Dress your Sims appropriately or face the consequences!
Accompanying the expansion will be other features as well, such as new wardrobes, items, talents, and careers. One of the notable features allows Sims to grow and harvest their own fruits and vegetables, which can be made into a variety of treats such as love potions and energy boosters.

Though the announcement applies to the PC version, it's almost assured that the Mac will get its own taste of Seasons sometime in the future. We'll post details as soon as they're available.
