Firmware Update Fixes Intel X1900 Startup?
9:03 AM | Anthony Wang | Comment on this story

According to user reports at Accelerate your Mac, the latest firmware update fixed a blank screen on certain monitors when using the ATI Radeon X1900 video card.

"Mike, I can confirm that the Mac Pro EFI firmware update 1.1 fixes the problem with no video during Windows XP boot with the ATI X1900. The low res XP splash screen now appears during boot.

However, the Parallels issue with VT-x - requiring sleep to enable it - has not been fixed on my computer. This is with Parallels Desktop build 1970.
(I mentioned to him I was leery of that first report based on past history, but that reader said he had restarted (even shut down/cold restart) and said it was still 'fixed'. This reader then replied back:)
I have just tested again for the Parallels issue. Shut down and restarted to find that I no longer get the VT-x put the computer to sleep message. So, the first time I rebooted after the EFI update (after a shut down) I had to put the computer to sleep to enable VT- x. Now, it no longer requires sleep to enable VT-x after a cold restart. It would appear that the problem is fixed. Weird.

Everyday starting October 30 to November 26, two winners will be chosen at random, with prizes changing weekly. The prizes include JINX gift certificates, Apple's iPod, and a nVidia graphics card.

Do you remember the first time you set foot in Orgrimmar and saw the watch fires burning on the parapets? What about the first time you heard the echoes of death in the halls of the Undercity? Or even the first time you saw the hot molten iron flowing beneath the catwalks of the city of Ironforge or gazed at the towering statues of the heroes of the Alliance in Stormwind? It has been two years since players first entered the world of Azeroth to forge such memories. Friendships have been created, battles waged, and mighty dragons vanquished.

To celebrate the second anniversary of the launch of World of Warcraft and to show our appreciation to our community, we will be awarding prizes over the next five weeks! Your support, enthusiasm and dedication have made us the #1 MMORPG in the world and we couldn't have done it without you!

The Sims 2: Pets Reviewed
9:03 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

PC Gamezone recently posted a new review of the PC version of The Sims 2: Pets, the latest expansion for the popular sim title. Pets, as the name suggests, gives players the option of introducing a variety of animal companions to the lives of their favorite sims. In addition to a Build-A-Pet option, the expansion offers features such as new pet items and pet career paths. Gamezone gave The Sims 2: Pets a score of 8.2 out of 10.

From the review:

Of course, it’s not all fun and games. If your pet does something against the rules, it’s your job to scold it. Pets don’t like this, but if you have a dog that’s chewing on your furniture or a cat that’s scratching all your electronics, you absolutely have to put it in its place or it will never learn. The Sims 2: Pets is a great deal similar to raising children. Spare the rod, spoil the pooch… err… child.

Having a pet, unlike in actual life, negates the need for having a significant other. During my time with this game, my character’s social meter was eternally maxed out. My dog, Crosby, watches television with me, eats my scraps, and brightens the days and spices up the nights all without lifting a paw. Moreover, when creating him, I statistically made him a laidback genius, so he’s very low maintenance and has only undergone a scolding or two for chewing on my bed.
