Halo Movie On Hold
8:20 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Wingnuts Films, the production company headed by Lord of The Rings director Peter Jackson, today announced that it has put the long-awaited Halo movie on hold. Earlier this month Universal and Fox withdrew from the project due to an due to an ever increasing budget that was rumored to be approaching $200 million.

Here's the announcement:

As was previously confirmed, we deeply regret that both Universal and Fox did not choose to move forward with financing the Halo film under the original terms of the agreement. At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen. We are fully supportive of Director Neill Blomkamp's vision of the film. Neill is a tremendously gifted filmmaker and his preliminary work on Halo is truly awe-inspiring. While it will undoubtedly take a little longer for Halo to reach the big screen, we are confident that the final feature film will be well worth the wait.

Burning Crusade Previewed
7:59 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Internode Games Network recently posted a short preview of The Burning Crusade, Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming expansion for World of Warcraft. Crusade will increase the level cap for characters, introduce controllable flying mounts, and offer an entirely new land to explore.

The first area in the outlands is called Hellfire Peninsula (Levels 58-63). There are some great new quests in this zone and some nice new game mechanics. My favourite so far is the "bombing runs" on demon camps using wyverns.

In this quest chain you travel along a wyvern flight paths and drop bombs on to structures and demons below. The 1st of these quests has you destroy two cannons used by the Burning Legion, the follow up has you dropping several bombs on a throng of demons on a nearby peninsula.

The Sims 2: Pets Reviewed
7:59 AM | Cord Kruse | 2 comments

Games Radar has released a new review of The Sims 2: Pets, the latest expansion for The Sims 2. In addition to adding a variety of new pets for players to introduce into their games the expansion also offers new features like the Build-A-Pet option and pet career opportunities. Internode gave Pets a score of 8 out of 10.

From the review:

If you're a casual player just looking for some furry / feathery accessories to your Sim household, as well as the humorous new actions and animations that accompany them, you'll love this latest expansion pack. Golden retrievers, poodles, beagles... tabbies, calicos, tuxedos... parrots, cockatoos, macaws. Practically every breed of dog, cat and exotic bird you could ask for is here, realistically brought to life and available for immediate purchase or adoption. In a wink to the beloved guinea pig of the original Sims, you can even own a rodent-like Womrat.

Plus, the stuff you can do with your companion does not disappoint. Buy them toys like catnip mice and rubber bones, teach them commands like "play dead" and "shake hands," put them to work in security and showbiz careers, or simply sit back and watch them dig up your garden, scratch up your furniture and then chase a skunk around the driveway.

The constructionist Sims 2 fans - you know, the ones who spend more time building elaborate homes and designing elegant fashion than they do playing the main game - will also be happy with Pets. Cats and dogs are customizable to a seemingly infinite degree. You can adjust everything from ear length to snout size to tail fluffiness. Can't decide between blue or green eyes for your Persian? Give her one of each.

Development of the Mac version was recently completed at Aspyr Media and the game expansion will be available soon in November.
