A Look Back at Fable: The Lost Chapters
7:19 AM | Anthony Wang | 6 comments

Computer and Video Games revists Lionhead Studios to talk about their popular RPG, Fable: The Lost Chapters, which was released for the PC a couple of months ago. In this revisit to Fable, the developers discuss everything from crazy ideas to man love.

Simon: Originally, we thought we'd only put about three or four days into it and then Adam - one of our brilliant artists - came back and had completely made over the brothel. The fabric that's in there at the moment is this obvious porn-palace kind of look - in fact, we originally had a flashing sign that had 'GIRLS! GIRLS! GIRLS!' outside. Then, when it came to scripters, they put a similar level of love and respect into it. We originally had them as generic GTA-style brothel women; characterless, with standard lines for all of their interactions. Then we ended up with a 75-page script, and I thought 'My god, you've given these characters more background than any of the heroes'!

Dene: I think the original idea for the brothel was from Peter (Molyneux). At the end of Dungeon Keeper, Peter also came up with the idea of having a brothel in one of the expansion packs, and then I think at the end of Black & White he had this remarkable idea of having a brothel in Black & White. So I think that at the end of a game, Peter thinks, 'I know what will make this better - a brothel'!

The Mac version of Fable: TLC is still in development by Feral Interactive and expected to be released sometime later this year. Please click on the links below to read the article and to learn more information.

WoW: Midsummer Fire Festival
7:02 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Blizzard Entertainment has released information about its latest in-game event for the ever popular World of Warcraft. The Midsummer FIre Festival will offer special missions with the opportunity for earning unique items. The event will also feature a fireworks show in addition to other activities.

Here are some of the scheduled entertainments for the Midsummer Fire Festival:

Tending the Flames
Across Azeroth, brilliant bonfires have been lit to signify the hottest months of the year. The chosen Flamekeepers are eager to ensure they continue burning long into the days and nights of the celebration - and they seek the aid of able explorers in doing so. Traverse the land and delve into dangerous dungeons at their behest. You may return hot, sweaty, and a little sooty...but these spiritual guides understand well the need to reward their adventurers beyond the promise of "enlightenment."

Fire in the Sky
The lengthy Midsummer Fire Festival traditionally ends with the sky itself being set alight. The goblins of Undermine have lent their considerable skill (and copious amounts of gunpowder) to the task, resulting in a tremendous fireworks show! Take up a festival mug and raise a toast to the season as the multicolored explosions dance across the sky above you

Heroes of Might and Magic V Reviewed
7:02 AM | Cord Kruse | Comment on this story

Gamedaily recently posted a review of the PC version of Heroes of Might and Magic V, the latest in the long running turn based strategy series. HoMM V introduces new gameplay elements and 3D graphics. Gamedaily gave HoMM V a score of 4 out of 5.

From the review:

The one thing that has changed a lot is the graphics, which wonderfully compliments the game here. While Heroes of Might and Magic IV might have had a slight struggle with the transition from 2D to 3D graphics, part five finally brings it all together. The fully rotating 3D map works perfectly, and encourages players to be more careful during their explorations, since it's easy for trees to hide bits of treasure. The graphics make very good use of color, making the battle sequences endlessly amusing, especially when spells are being thrown around.

Aside from the exploration and the castle building aspects, the heart of the game of the game can be found in the strategic combat, where heroes play a big role. While heroes are still very powerful, unlike some previous games, it is no longer possible for a single hero to practically win without an army. All creatures, including the hero, has a turn on a battle queue. In earlier games, the moral system would allow creatures to attack twice successively, which sometimes meant incredible victories if larger creatures were allowed to get in a few extra moves. Now, higher moral simply means that they get a higher place in the queue, which significantly balances out gameplay.

HoMM V for Mac is in progress at Freeverse Software. To read the rest of the review follow the link listed below.

Lugaru 2 Development Update
7:01 AM | Anthony Wang | 4 comments

Wolfire Software's anticipated sequel, Lugaru 2 is coming together by a load of updates the last couple of days on the Wolfire development blog. These include movement, graphics rendering, and lightning. In addition, there are new screenshots and a video showcasing Lugaru 2 movement.

Here's one of the updates:

Grass rendering
June 14th, 2006 by David
I thought the grassy areas were looking a little bit flat, so I started working on the grass rendering. It uses the same general principle as the old grass system (fin/shell volume rendering) but now it uses vertex and pixel shaders to look better and run faster.
Lugaru 2 is the sequel to the popular shareware game Lugaru: The Rabbit's Foot. Please click on the links below to view the blog.
