CodeBlender Software has released their latest game, DeepTrouble 2, the sequel to the popular action game DeepTrouble. In DeepTrouble 2, the underwater aliens are fiercer than ever before. As the most experienced pilot of the Excalibur '7' series fighter and reconnaissance craft you are tasked with uncovering the dark secret of the underwater aliens and their colony-world.

The many different types of enemies will put your combat and strategic skills to the test as you navigate deeper through dangerous underwater passages and enemy territory. DeepTrouble 2 is priced at $29.95. Macgamefiles.com is hosting the DeepTrouble 2 download. A 34 MB demo version as well as the full version (106 MB) are available for download on MGF. Please note that the full version requires a serial number and will not run without one.
DeepTrouble 2 features 11 levels with gorgeous and detailed graphics made possible by the use of OpenGL's vertex and fragment shaders. Bump mapping, dynamic shadows and other advanced techniques add to the highly detailed graphics. OpenAL is being used to bring out great sound effects that will immerse you into the game together with the suspenseful music.

AGEIA Builds Momentum at E3

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo today, AGEIA Technologies, the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, announced a flurry of design wins and new partnerships with game developers, add-in board vendors, publishers, console manufacturers and middleware vendors from around the world and throughout the gaming universe.
The announcements are significant since the company will be releasing a Mac SDK of AGEIA physics in the future. Havok, one of AGEIA's competitors, is currently not available for the Mac and has caused the cancellation of various Macintosh games.
Here's a list of "wins" from AGEIA:
• ASUS Computer: Will develop and market add-in boards with the AGEIA PhysX processor, the world’s first and only dedicated physics processing unit. Gamespot has released a large question and answer session on The Sims 2: Nightlife. The Q&A covers drivable vehicles and their various features.
GameSpot: Tell us about why drivable cars were added to The Sims 2: Nightlife. Was it due to player demand, or was it a specific feature the team really felt was necessary for the expansion? To view the complete Q&A, drive on over to the links section.
Tim LeTourneau: Both. This is a feature that Sims players have been requesting for five years, so we have always wanted to add them. Then you design an expansion pack about "getting your sims out of the house and out on the town." It's just a natural thing to include.
GS: Tell us about the role of drivable cars in the expansion. What can cars do, and what can't they do?
TL: Well these are Sims cars obviously. I don't want anyone to think we've made The Sims 2: Need for Speed, though wouldn't that be cool (imagine Mortimer Goth as a high-speed racer through SimCity!).

MacSoft Releases New Close Combat Patch, Dedicated Server

MacSoft has released an update for Close Combat: First To Fight, bringing it to version 1.02. The new updates address several issues with the game and adds a new dedicated server program for those wishing to host their games under Mac OS X.
Here's a list of changes:
• Dedicated Server was added (view section 6 below for more information). A separate dedicated server ReadMe has also been included. This separate ReadMe contains the same information noted in section 6 below. To patch is available for download from Macgamefiles.com
• Enhanced observer mode options.
• Fix to the Portfolio function. Portfolios now display the mission and statistics scores properly.
• Fix to the save deletion function. Games can now be properly deleted for all operating systems from within the game.

MacSoft Treasure Hunt Day 3

The MacSoft Tropico 2 treasure hunt continues today with another new clue. On each day of this week, IMG will be posting a clue. Each clue will lead you to a particular game page on the MacSoft website. On the game page, you’ll have to hunt for a hidden item. It might be some odd text, maybe a picture, or something else altogether. When you find the hidden item-click on it. You’ll receive a piece of a word puzzle. On Friday, we’ll tell you how to solve the puzzle.
The first person to solve the puzzle and complete the hunt will win a treasure trove of MacSoft games including Rise of Nations, Railroad Tycoon 3, Close Combat: First to Fight and, of course, Tropico 2: Pirate Cove.

Salvo! Demo Released

Shrapnel Games has released a demo of their upcoming naval warfare for the Mac, Salvo! The 293 MB demo includes four tutorial scenarios, and the complete help documentation consisting of the quickstart and user guides, plus a full campaign, 'The Bourbon Navy'.

While 'The Bourbon Navy' is one of the smaller campaigns to be found in Salvo! it showcases what gamers should expect from the full retail game, and when combined with the tutorials players will get the full Salvo! experience in all its glory. Tim Brooks, president and founder of Shrapnel Games, is quite excited over the demo. "I love the fact that the sea dogs of the world will get a taste of everything the full retail game will have to offer. A lot of people have been quite excited over the prospect of easily commanding an armada, and now thanks to the demo they'll get to see just how easy mastery of the high seas comes to the player. In fact, with the various battles included it's almost more like a mini-game than just a demo!"
Players will also be able to read the 'mission introduction' to the rest of the scenarios and campaigns that will be found in the retail game, allowing them a peek into the exciting engagements they will be able to soon participate in. It should also be noted that the demo is not crippleware by any means. Virtual captains don't have to put up with time limited gameplay, or the inability to save the game, or feel cheated out of any other game resource. Play the demo as you see fit. After all, a demo is meant to let players sample the actual game, not twist into 'beat the clock'.
Salvo!, playable on both PCs and Macs, was originally slated for a May 1st gold date but the date has been delayed until the end of May. Salvo! is a single-player experience of naval war from the 17th through 19th centuries, with an emphasis on command and control using an intuitive command scheme. Five major sailing forces are included in the game, as are two pirate forces, and a wide variety of ship types.
Macgamestore.com is currently taking pre-orders for the game for $39.95. It is scheduled to ship at the end of May.
