7:12 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Virtual Programming has released a demo of Savage - The Battle for Newerth. The demo, which weighs in at a little over 230 MB is available for download from Macgamefiles.com. In addition, Virtual Programming has announced that the game is available exclusively for sale through their digital download service.

Here's a brief description of Savage:

Choose to be a commander and you will play an in-depth RTS managing the stronghold, or choose to be a warrior and you will play an intense game of first person combat. With the creation of a new game play genre, RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter), Savage expertly redefines the first-person shooter and real-time strategy genres by combining elements of both into one cohesive experience. As the commander in RTS mode, you will tackle resource management, develop a robust tech tree, plan your assault and lead real human players into battle. As a warrior in action mode, you will master many unique weapons, powerful units, and siege vehicles to fight a fast paced battle.

Set in a unique fantasy world eons from now where Humans and Beasts battle violently for their very existence. Savage transports gamers to the next level in multi-player gaming. Choose to fight on the side of HUMANITY, armed with science and technology, or take the side of the BEAST HORDE, masters of nature and magic. Each race has its own style of battle, its own leader, and its own way to victory. Which side are you on?

To download the demo, head over to our sister site, Macgamefiles.com. The full version of the game is available on Virtual Programming's Savage web site as a download. Currently there is no boxed product available.

Dev Director Talks Lego Star Wars
9:27 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

FileFront has posted the results of a short interview with Jonathan Smith, Director for the upcoming title Lego Star Wars. As the title suggests, this game looks to recreate the Star Wars experience using a world built from the popular toy series, using story material from Episodes I-III to flesh things out.

Topics discussed in the interview include the reasoning behind buliding a Lego Star Wars world and gameplay features, including the ability to play with one or two people at anytime:

We have a feature called "drop-in/drop-out" play, which means that a second player can join in the action at any time. Two players can play simultaneously through the whole game if they like.
Smith also points to the Free Play mode, which will allow players to take any character and plant them into any scene. He also notes that the game will feature a variety of controllable characters as well as a number of Force powers.

i5works is currently handling the porting of this title to the Mac, with Aspyr handling the publishing. The current target for release is around August 2005.

Blizzard Gives WoW Dungeon, Auction Tips
9:27 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Blizzard has posted some new pages to the info guide for World of Warcraft. The two new additions include the preperation and handling of dungeon exploring as well as advice on how best to handle the auction house.

As far as the auctioning of items goes, the recommendations for increasing one's gold intake include determining item demand, checking both suggested and current retail prices, buyout prices, and timing. Some of the more involved techniques involve reselling items and camping the auction house.

The dungeon tips guide covers everything from what to bring on an expedition to how to best distribute any wealth found along the way.

Typically, the highest-quality equipment and weapons can be found within instances. This makes hunting in them very appealing. However, it also attracts people that are there simply for the loot. Make sure that before you enter the instance, everyone has agreed to how loot the loot gets divided. The group may be hoping to find a particular item for a particular character, or they may be prepared to sell everything that drops and split the cash. Usually items that can be used by multiple members of the party are "rolled for."
Both the new tips pages as well as previously released ones can be found in the info guide section of the official WoW Community site.
