DOOM 3 For Mac Ships
8:55 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Our friends at Aspyr Media today announced that the long-awaited Mac version of DOOM 3 has begun shipping to retail shelves and should be available everywhere by March 19, 2005. The port was jointly developed for the Macintosh by id Software and Aspyr Studios.

Here's more from the press release:

“DOOM 3 has instantly become a must have title for any game fan, and now Macintosh owners can experience the unmatched atmosphere and edge-of-your-seat gameplay that critics and gamers have been raving about,” said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. “DOOM 3’s intense combat, realistic sound and physics, and unbelievably terrifying creatures draw you into the gaming experience like never before, and our bleeding-edge technology is the perfect showpiece for the power of today’s Macintosh systems."

The ruins of an ancient Martian civilization have unlocked the secrets to teleportation and the Union Aerospace Corporation will stop at nothing to harness this world-altering technology. As part of a Marine detachment sent to protect the facility, your duty seemed simple enough – until the invasion. Now, a massive demonic invasion has overwhelmed the UAC. In an epic clash against pure evil, you must fight to understand who is with you, who is against you, and what must be done to stop this nightmare from reaching Earth.

DOOM 3’s dramatic storyline, pulse-pounding action, and incredible graphics, combine to produce the most frightening and gripping gaming experience ever created. DOOM 3 utilizes id Software’s revolutionary new 3D graphics engine to create disturbingly realistic graphics, with never before seen detail and real-time lighting. Players can fight the forces of evil as a lone marine or battle other marines in team or deathmatch-based multiplayer modes.

The IMG Store is currently taking pre-order for DOOM 3 for $49.95. Pre-order your copy today and we'll ship it as soon as it arrives.

Mac Games and More Releases Frenesia
10:52 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Mac Games and More has announced the release of a new game for Mac OS X called Frenesia. The game was made with the 2D game engine, PTK. The 2D "Shmup" game takes simple neon graphics and concentrates heavily on challenging game play. Frenesia targets the die-hard, expert 2D shooter game players.

Here's more from the press release:

If you like intense arcade action, and you are an excellent shmup player, Frenesia just might be for you. I'm not going to lie. You HAVE to be really good. Are you really good? Remember: thinking you're good is NOT the same as BEING good.

Frenesia is a fun and addictive retro arcade game that will shake you up, twirl you around, turn you upside down and drop you on your head. And you'll like that! Slalom with your ship, collect bonuses, shoot aliens, dance around your room (or whatever you do) and send your adrenaline levels to the sky. Hey, but don't blame me for your addiction. Ready? You're on your own.

Musical Note: Like the music? Hate the music? If you can pass Level 9, you'll hear a different music track.

Postal Expansion Coming to OS X
8:55 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Fans of Running with Scissors' FPS Postal 2 should be pleased to note that an expansion is currently headed for the Mac. As noted by Ryan Gordon at IcculusFinger, Apocalypse Weekend, a single player add-on for Postal 2, is going to be made available.

Apocalypse Weekend will be made to work with Linux and MacOSX in some form. I'm not sure what the distribution model will be (seperate SKUs, one universal disc, buy Windows version and download Linux/Mac installer), but there will definitely be something.
Apocalypse Weekend adds a number of new features, including 20 new maps, weapons, characters, and scenarios. Gordon has also posted a screenshot of the expansion's main menu running under OS X.

Blizzard Bans 'Gold Farmers'
8:55 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Most folks who play MMORPGs are familiar with the types of players typically labeled "currency farmers." There seems to be a market for the selling of in-game currency for real money, and the purpose of these farmers is usually to amass large sums of in-game currency to sell to distributors, usually at the cost of gameplay quality for players just trying to enjoy the game.

Such activities haven't gone unnoticed by Blizzard concerning gold farmers in World of Warcraft After investigating, they've banned over 1000 accounts that they believe to be involved:

Over the recent weeks we have been investigating the activities of certain individuals who have been farming gold in order to sell it in exchange for real world currency. After researching the situation, we have issued permanent suspensions to over one thousand accounts that have been engaging in this practice. We do not condone such actions and will take decisive action as they are against our policy and damage the game economy as a whole.
They add that further investigations will continue, and ask that any player who suspects such activities are going on to report them directly to the in-game GMs.
