Robin Hood Demo Released
8:41 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

e.p.i.c. interactive has released a demo of Robin Hood, where you get to take part in one of the oldest and most popular stories of all time. In the game you can penetrate the mighty walls of Nottingham Castle, York, Leicester, Derby and Lincoln, and attack heavily guarded convoys in Sherwood Forest.

Do not only take on the role of the hero Robin Hood, but also the roles of his faithful vassals and take them to the battle field against the nasty Prince John Lackland. In doing so you are able to enjoy the fabulous English landscape of 1190 as well as the giant castles and funny characters.

The thrilling story is introduced by an award-winning introduction and transfers you directly into the hero's body with the first mission, in which you have to set the captive comrades free. Take up the battle against the oppressors and free the farmers from the Prince's reign! Be smart, be fast! Be Robin Hood!

More than 30 non-linear missions with very different plots. For instance you have to save Little John and Brother Tuck, to prevent a wedding between Marianne and the revolting Guy of Gisbourne or to attack the tax collectors of the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Visit five giant castles on different ways, at day and night times, and at different weather conditions.

Play with up to nine integrated characters being outstanding due to their specific abilities and qualities.

Due to an innovative fighting system you are able to control the heros sword in battles by mouse.

Decide yourself which tactic appears to be the right one for you: reach the goal by creeping around the guards or fight bravely using sword and bow.

The game will be available with english, german and french localizations. Both texts and dialogues are translated.

The 56 MB demo is available for download from our sister site,

Audio Interview with Myst IV Composer
8:41 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

XGR has posted an audio file of an interview with music composer Jack Wall. In addition to working on titles such as Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Unreal II, he was also the composer for Myst IV, and is currently scoring the soundtrack to the upcoming Xbox title Jade Empire.

The interview covers a number of topics, including Wall's creative process in determining what kind of music would be created for Myst IV. One example includes analyzing the story, characters, and artwork of Myst IV, and then seeking out particular sounds that seemed to fit the game.

Wall also discusses the creation of music for games in general, including direction and the hiring of recording artists. For Myst IV, both Enya and Peter Gabriel were initially considered. During the actual creation process, Gabriel was shown a number of scenes and was allowed to pick parts he thought he could work with.

The interview itself is available as an mp3 file and is currently being hosted by Fileshack.

Chinese World of Warcraft Site Launched
6:00 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story

With the upcoming release of one of the most anticipated online role playing game ever finally within sight, game developers Blizzard are taunting their audience with almost daily glimpses and news reports regarding their long-awaited Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game World Of Warcraft.

This time, the good-humoured programmers have released a collection of sixteen different sound bytes from the different Alliance and Horde characters in the game. The sometimes humourous, sometimes flirtatious quotes represent only a small sample of the multitude of voices available to players through the game's new Speech command. The voice samples are available either individually, or as a zip'ed archive from the developer's website.

Furthermore, in preparation for the game's China release in 2005, Blizzard has opened its official Chinese World Of Warcraft website. The website, scripted in simplified Chinese, allows fans of the game access to the game's most recent news, previews of the game's features, and invites visitors to take part in the website's official forums.

The regular English version of the game is currently available for pre-order over at the IMG Store at $49.95 USD, while a special Collector's Edition of the title is also available for hardcore online warriors. The Collector's Edition, containing the full version of World of Warcraft, will also come loaded with a multitude of extras including a 200 page Art Book, a behind the Scenes DVD, the game's official soundtrack on CD, a cloth World Map, and some undisclosed "Virtual Items". Pre-orders for the Collector's Edition are currently being taken in exchange for $79.95 US dollars. Click on the links below to pre-order your copy of the game:

Modded Xboxes Running Mac OS X
6:00 AM | Conrad Quilty-Harper | Comment on this story

A group of Mac-friendly Xbox modders have successfully managed to install Mac OS X onto an Xbox. They managed this through a complicated procedure of installing first Xebian Linux, then compiling a version of Pear PC for this version of Linux and then finally a copy of Mac OS X via Pear PC. Mac OS X will then run in emulation via Pear PC albeit at a large performance hit, thanks in part to the limited specifications of the Xbox.

Since the Xbox is essentially a regular PC with a proprietary operating system, it is easy to modify the system to become a simple PC. It has been possible to install variants of Windows and Linux for some time now, yet no-one has ever attempted installing any Mac operating systems.

Xbox owners looking to carry out this modification should be aware that the process is long and requires a degree of technical knowledge. Installation of OS X alone takes up to 10 hours, and most likely nullifies the unit's warranty. The link below includes detailed information about how to mod your own Xbox.

Apple Details Ford Racing 2
6:00 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story

Apple's gaming expert Brad Cook has finished polishing a new preview of Feral Interactive's upcoming racing title Ford Racing 2.

The one page preview lays out all the details regarding the new title, including the game's multitude of vehicles, racing tracks, and all of the game's unique gameplay modes:

In Driving Skills, it’s just you and the road as you try to complete one lap of a track before time runs out; each clean pass through a gate of cones earns you a few more precious seconds. In Seconds Out, you also earn extra time with each hourglass you collect, but you need them to reduce your overall time and beat the target. Racing Line requires you to stay on a line as you zip around the track, incurring a penalty every time you stray off it. Finally, Time Attack offers you three laps around the track as you try to beat the target time; a “ghost” car representing your best time appears if you lag behind its pace during subsequent laps.
The full version of the new title is available for purchase from both the Feral Interactive and Apple online stores - no trade-ins accepted. Players curious about the title should head over to IMG's sister site MacGameFiles, where they can take the 39 MB demo out for a spin.
