Celtic Kings Takes the Throne for OS X
7:19 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

Virtual Programming has announced the combination role-playing/realtime strategy game Celtic Kings: Rage of War is now shipping for the Mac. This innovative new title has both adventure and strategic modes to keep all sorts of gamers interested.

Here's more on the title from the press release:

In strategic mode, you play against computer opponents or other players on
the Internet exercising your strategic and tactical skills to achieve
objective victory. You train and command many units, hire and develop
heroes, acquire powerful artefacts and conquer strongholds and villages.
Launch large-scale military campaigns against your foes to bring them to
their knees. The game-play in this mode is similar to the traditional RTS

In adventure mode, you control a party of heroes and explore the world as
the struggle between Caesar and the Gaul chieftain Vercingetorix evolves.
Which side you will support? Will you betray your allies of yesterday? Will
you follow the mysterious druids as they request your assistance? Command
strongholds and large armies; take risky missions behind the enemy lines.
Find powerful artefacts to support you. Make friends and foes as you try to
reveal who you are and who you want to be.

The game needs OS X 10.2 with at least an 800MHz processor in order to run well. In addition to being available for purchase or download on Virtual Programming's site, North American gamers can look for MacPlay to have the title ready soon as well.

IMG Reviews SimCity 4: Rush Hour
11:11 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Inside Mac Games has posted a review of SimCity 4: Rush Hour, the expansion pack for the popular city building simulation. Here's a clip from the review:

First and foremost are the new mass transportation choices available in the game. Can’t afford to build an expensive bridge across the river that cuts your city into two distinct zones: the northern bank voting with the red states and the southern bank voting with the blue states? Swim no more! Now you can build a passenger and/or automobile ferry to shuttle your peeps from point A to point B.

Aspern 1809 Released
7:43 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Continuing their line of Napoleonic strategy titles, By Design is now offering Aspern 1809: Napoleon vs. Austrians. Aspern, like its predecessors, uses the Waterloo engine to depict a battle in which the French took heavy losses.

While not a true defeat, Aspern -Essling marked the first serious reverse suffered by Bonaparte at the hands of his foes.

More than 21,000 French soldiers became casualties and the army suffered the grievous loss of one of its finest commanders, when Marshal Lannes died after losing a leg to a cannonball wound.

Aspern includes features such as the ability to switch sides during a battle, the inclusion of commanders down to Division levels, and editable units. Those interested in more information or downloads can find them at By Design's site.
