Vendetta Patch Update Details
7:50 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story

The latest update to the massively multiplayer space action game Vendetta by Guild Software is now available. This newest patch makes a number of changes and updates to the game, as can be seen in the most recent news post:

Gameplay changes: There is now a significant faction hit for killing other players, and very large hit if you kill them in the territory of a faction where they are held in high esteem (like their home sectors). This has little impact on Serco vs Itani combat, as those factions already hate one another. Very low faction standing results in reduced item availability, worse prices, and eventually a Kill On Sight status with defense bots (and inability to dock at related stations).

Beginner Combat missions no longer give ever-increasing bonuses, and don't let you train above level 4.

Advanced Combat training missions should now work.

"Money Bug" temporarily worked around. You no longer get a discount based on faction / Commerce, instead you get better prices when selling items.

IMG Posts Knights of the Old Republic First Look
10:37 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a first-look preview of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The first-look preview includes the very first two screenshots from the Mac version of the game.

Here's a clip from the first look:

Knights of the Old Republic takes place 4,000 years before C-3P0 became a comedian and Jar-Jar Binks was spawned, we’re talking good times. It is a time when Jedi Knights and Sith minions number in the thousands, neither side hiding from the other. The Galactic Republic recently survived a battle with brutal Sith Lord, Exar Kun, only to be betrayed by two fallen Jedi, Darth Revan and Darth Malak. The game begins with Darth Malak leading an enormous fleet of Sith starships against the extraordinarily outgunned Republic fleet. During this battle, a young female Jedi named, Bastila, vanishes, thus it is the player’s job to find her. With an entire fleet of Sith starships at their front door, why is one Jedi so important? Simply put, Bastila could possibly turn the tide of war, whether it be toward good or evil. Bastila is what’s known as a master of Battle Meditation; she can literally inspire the hearts of her allies, while breaking the spirits of her enemies, all with the power of her mind. Were she trained properly by a Sith master, young Bastila could be a lethal foe.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is being ported to the Mac by Aspyr Media and is scheduled to be released in August. To check out the entire preview, please follow the link below.

Mac Homeworld 1 Development Update
8:44 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

A recent update was recently posted in the forums by LMOP regarding the current status of Homeworld for OS X. The Mac code has been worked on, and its changes are currently being worked into the Linux version, for several reasons.

Michael sent me the Macintosh code last week which I've now got working on my Mac and have been playing around with ever since. We've been sending a lot of email too and fro talking about the code which has been very enlightening. I'm currently working on getting the Macintosh code changes incorporated into the Linux port's codebase. This has three advantages:

1) It makes it much easier for Michael, myself and anyone else who may join us later on, to exchange code fixes/enhancements.
2) If the Linux port sees a resurgence in activity then we will automatically pick up any game related fixes they make.
3) It makes it a lot harder for us to lose all the hard work that's been done up until now!

An official website has also gone up, offering a download of the current code as well as instructions on how to implement it.

For those unfamiliar with the project, Homeworld for OS X is a volunteer effort to enable an OS X version of the popular spacefaring title. More information can be found in the related forum thread.
