Apple Posts 'The Many Faces of War' Feature
8:55 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Apple has posted a new games feature on the popular Apple games web site called The Many Faces of War. The article, written by Brad Cook, takes a look at three of Aspyr's upcoming first-person shooters including Medal of Honor: Breakthrough, Call of Duty, and Delta Force: Black Hawk Down.

Here's a clip from the feature:

Call of Duty and Breakthrough place you in the boots of a common soldier fighting for the Allied cause during World War II. While the latter takes the singular view of Sergeant John Baker as he travels through Africa and Italy during1943 and 1944, the former offers you three vantage points — American soldier Private Martin, British officer Sergeant Evans, and Soviet conscript Alexi — as you experience highlights of the major battles that took place from 1942 through 1945.
Medal of Honor: Breakthrough and Call of Duty have recently gone Golden Master and are scheduled to ship sometime in May. To check out the feature, please follow the link below.

X-Plane Creator Releases Space Combat 1.40
12:44 PM | Chris Stein | Comment on this story

Austin Meyer, author of the ultra-realistic flight simulator X-Plane, recently released another ultra-realistic flight simulator. The only catch is: it's in space. Featuring realistic physics and graphics, Space Combat, is meant to simulate what it's like to fly a science-fiction spaceship, all on your Mac.

In-game objectives vary from dodging asteroids to going through gates. You can also create your own regions of play using the included region generator. While mostly oriented on the experience of flying a realistically-made spaceship, the game does feature a newly added combat mode.

What motivated Meyer to make a space combat game? According to his website, he had always wanted to fly a really spaceship, but had realized that computer games were a great medium to live out his fantasies:

I often watch Star Wars, Star Trek, and Babylon 5 and wonder how those spaceships really should handle.
Could the X-Wing really maneuver like that?
Need the Imperial Star Destroyers really be so LUMBERING?
What would it be like to fly a Star Fury?
How should a vessel of a given mass, size, and thruster power REALLY handle?
Space Combat is available for download for Mac at the link below. A PC version is also available on Space Combat's website.

IMG Reviews the Belkin Wireless Keyboard/Ergo Mouse
9:46 AM | Johan Hansén | Comment on this story

Our faithful servant Galen Wiley has investigated the quality and usefulness of the Wireless Keyboard/Ergo Mouse combination from the noble hardware manufacturer Belkin. In his review, he tries to decide wether this combo truly is the knight in shiny armor its stunning looks tries to suggest.

From the article:

One glance at the Wireless Keyboard and Ergo Optical Mouse, and becomes clear that Belkin has put a lot of work into making their product fit with today's "look". Both the mouse and keyboard are bathed in a semi-reflective stainless metal, giving them a very "professional" look. The color of the keyboard's keys resemble a grey similar to those of the keyboards that shipped with early Apple mini-towers, while the mouse's underside is entirely jet-black.
To give you the opportunity to take part of this informative review, we have provided you with an easily accessible link at the bottom of this humble article.

WoW Beta Level Increase
8:55 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story

Any of you lucky enough to have gotten a spot in Blizzard's coveted World of Warcraft beta will be pleased to hear that the Maximum level has now been raised to 39. There are multiple reasons for it to be raised to this odd number, as can be seen in this post:

We are increasing the level cap later today to 39! Why 39 you ask? What an odd number! The honest reason we’ve elected to increase character levels to 39 instead of 40 is to avoid having to make plate mail armors and mounts available at this time.

Plate Mail wearing characters can start using it at level 40. Many of the plate mail recipes and drops are not available yet. We are also not ready to release mounts. Most of them are finished but a few are still being finalized. We certainly didn’t want to give some races mounts and leave others out.

The level cap is mainly being lifted so that you can all continue to grow your characters, explore and have fun. For those eager testers, we would appreciate your main concentration through all wings of the Monastery.
