GarageGames Releases Cross-platform Network Library
9:24 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Upping the ante for independent game developers, GarageGames has announced the availability of the Torque Network Library, a standalone library of cross-platform capable network code. The award-winning code uses a cross-platform C++ API and is designed for smooth integration.

"TNL allows developers to support more players while using less bandwidth per client than any other solution on the market. Even under adverse net conditions TNL delivers a lag free experience," explains Mark Frohnmayer, GarageGames Founder and Director of Internal Development. "In less than a day you can have a minimal TNL implementation up and running in your game or network product, within weeks you can take advantage of all the advanced features of the TNL."
The TNL comes with several example applications, and carries a license plan similar to the one used for the Torque engine itself. GarageGames has also put the TNL under the GNU General Public License.

The Sims: Superstar Reaches v2.8.1
8:09 AM | Alvaro Radigales | Comment on this story

The Sims: Superstar, the expansion pack for the staggeringly popular neighbourhood life simulator by Electronic Arts, has been updated to version 2.8.1.

First off, this new version features a long-awaited enhancement that will no doubt make The Sims fans quite happy: it supports file names longer than 31 characters, thus making it compatible with all add-ons and downloads available online for the PC version of the game. Furthermore, it corrects a fairly common crash on startup as well as a bunch of minor bugs and issues.

The patch to version 2.8.1 is already available for download at our sister site MacGameFiles, weighing at the modest size of 3.5 mb. To download the file, follow the link provided below.

Postal 2 Mac Testers Needed
8:09 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story

Ryan Gordon has posted to his .plan file that he's looking for testers for the upcoming Mac version of Postal 2, the ultra-violent first person shooter from Running with Scissors. Gordon notes anyone who can play Unreal Tournament 2004 should have hardware powerful enough to run this game as well.

Here's more from his post:

If you've got a broadband connection and a Mac that runs ut2004 more or less acceptably, then you have everything you need to apply for this beta test.

If you are offended by filthy words, gratuitous violence (moreso than your average First Person Shooter), or other adult situations, please don't apply. This game is for mature (immature?) audiences. It can be pretty nasty in some situations. In fact, if you're not 18, don't apply. You Have Been Warned.

For more on how to apply, check out Gordon's post at, linked below.
