MacHaloMods Debuts
8:14 AM | Tim Morgan | Comment on this story

HaloMods, a resource for modders of the premier first-person shooter Halo, has recently launched their sister site MacHaloMods, intended to allow Mac users to get a first look at what modding Halo is all about. The website is sparse for now, but offers Mac users a place to begin learning about Halo modding.

Currently the website offers a tutorial on how to perform meta swapping, a basic Halo modding technique. In addition, visitors can download the Halo Modding Tools program, allowing users to swap metas without a hex editor, as well as extract textures and reskin various objects in the game.

Although the PC world has already seen a number of mods for Halo, the revolutionary first-person shooter from longtime Macintosh developer Bungie (now a part of Microsoft), the Macintosh modding world has yet to take off. Those interested will likely find MacHaloMods a valuable starting point for their future projects.

IMG Reviews Hard Rock Casino
11:00 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a review of MacPlay's Hard Rock Casino. Here's a clip from the review:

The goal of Hard Rock Casino is to have the player create a 1950s avatar and earn money by playing eight betting games in a simulated casino environment. As the player wins more money, the avatar advances from the 1950s era to the 60s, 70s, all the way to a modern environment. With each decade change comes a new look for the player's character, a new style for each game, and the ability to participate in higher stakes tables, earning even more money to advance further. Eventually, the player can earn VIP status, and celebrate their skill at gambling.

Hard Rock Casino features Keno, Baccarat, Poker, Craps, Black Jack, Slots, Roulette, and Video Poker. As far as casino games go, this title definitely covers all of the main games. For the beginners out there, Hard Rock Casino also features a nice help guide that lists the rules for how to play each game (although the actual help window is rather dull). Also, there isn't much room for customization, as the developer decided to just include the standard rules for each game. In this sense, Hard Rock Casino may not appeal to the more hardcore gamers, since each game is pretty standard and just offers a nice environment to practice in.
