Temporary uDevGame 2003 Server Hosted
6:00 AM | Johan HansÚn | Comment on this story

Following the recent server problems, iDevGames is now getting back on track again. While the official server still is down due to maintenance, there is a temporary uDevGame page up where people can download most of the participating games while we wait for the regular server to get back online.

iDevGames' editor-in-chief, Carlos Camancho, has posted a status update in our forum:

We have our server restored but are doing some security work on it. After that is complete, we will reload the site and open back up -- contining from where the voting left off.
Head over to the temporary page to start playing the games as soon as possible. Hopefully it won't take to long before the official server is back up so that one of the most important happenings in independent Macintosh game development can continue as normal.

IMG Reviews Age of Mythology
12:30 PM | Johan HansÚn | Comment on this story

To conclude the Age of Mythology week here at IMG we have posted our own review of this fantasy based real-time strategy game by Ensamble Studios. While based in the historical cultures of the Greeks, Norse and Egyptians the game focuses on the cultures mythology and implements it both in the story and gameplay.

From the review:

Age of Mythology includes the notion of gods. As you advance through each technological age, you're given a choice between two gods to worship for that age. Pick wisely. Each god and deity comes with its own set of blessings, units, and technologies. And the powers and abilities they bestow on you aren't unimportant. While one god might give your opponent the ability to create a new type of war machine, another god might give you the ability to create something specifically designed to decimate that machine. As you play, a message alerts you to the god your opponent has chosen. Not so great if you've advanced first, but an excellent piece of information if you've been lagging behind. In this way, the game stays incredibly well-balanced and fair. If you've learned enough to choose wisely, that is.

If you want to buy Age of Mythology, you can pre-order it from the IMG Store today. The game is scheduled to ship sometime next week.

Deus Ex 2 Developer Diary
10:33 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story

Gaming supersite IGN has just posted a developer's diary for Eidos Interactive's and Ion Storm's highly-anticipated sequel, Deus Ex: Invisible War.

In the two page post, Sheldon Pacotti, lead writer for the action/rpg hybrid, highlights the various warring featured in the game, and explains how players will have the choice of aligning themselves with any of those factions almost from the start of the game -

Since the game takes place twenty years after a worldwide economic catastrophe called the "Great Collapse," the factions represent groups that have differing ideas about how to rebuild civilization. Just as the player chose three possible fates for high capitalism at the end of Deus Ex, the player of Invisible War is considering how best to re-establish global society in a chaotic environment that makes almost any future possible. By the end of the game, four distinct alternatives will be open to the player, alternatives which will have been developed over the course of the entire game.
Fans of the original should check out the article, as it delves deeper into the game's story more than any other article posted to date. While you're at it, head over to IGN's main competitor, Gamespot, to download either the 36 meg intro, or the recently released 18 meg trailer for the game.

Deus Ex: Invisible War's current shipping date for the PC and XBox versions is slated for December 2nd of this year. No word yet on when (or whether or not) we should be expecting a Mac version to hit the shelves.

Custer Plays With the Gods
6:00 AM | Johan HansÚn | Comment on this story

Following the Age of Mythology theme of the week, IMG's desktop wizard Brad Custer has created a mythic desktop for everybody to download.

Brad elaborates:

To keep with the theme of the week I dedicated this desktop to Age of Mythology. There has been a steady line of email with our coverage of the game so I was more than happy to honor them. In this week's wallpaper I wanted to focus on the gods of mythology. So, with the help of Ensemble Studios and the internet, I was able to create this desktop. I simply entitled this feature, "Immortal", and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. :)
To get the new desktop, head over to Custer's Desktops and choose your size for download.

Age of Mythology for Mac is done and should ship from MacSoft sometime next week. You can pre-order your copy from the IMG Store for $48.95 ($43.95 for MacGames CD/IMG Pro Subscribers).
