Halo To Ship December 3rd
11:23 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

Macsoft today announced that the long-awaited Macintosh version of Bungie's Halo: Combat Evolved will be shipping on December 3rd, in time for Christmas. The game promises many enhancements over the critically acclaimed and best-selling Xbox game, including online multiplayer support, new maps, vehicles and weapons.

Here's more from the official press release:

Halo is optimized for the Macintosh with the precision offered by the mouse-and-keyboard and full support for high-end hardware including graphic resolutions up to 1600 by 1200 and beyond. Halo's online multiplayer feature will enable players to battle it out with fellow gamers worldwide in a variety of individual and team-based games. Halo for Macintosh was developed by Westlake Interactive in conjunction with Gearbox Software and Bungie Studios.

"I haven’t had this much fun on a computer since I visited Madrigal with a few dwarves and a handful of Berserks." according to Destineer president (and former Bungie executive vice president) Peter Tamte. "Nothing compares to playing Halo with the precision of a mouse and keyboard on a Mac."

Halo: Combat Evolved is a sci-fi action epic that shatters the confines of traditional game environments. Players wage a hi-tech guerilla war on foot, in vehicles, in the air and beneath the surface of an alien ring orbiting in space.

The game was created developer Bungie Studios and Windows PC version of Halo was developed by Gearbox Software.

The IMG Store is currently taking pre-orders for this highly-anticipated game. Be on the lookout for a hands-on preview of the game on IMG soon.

MumboJumbo Releases Chainz
2:20 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

MumboJumbo today announced the release of their new puzzle game, Chainz. The game is available for Macintosh and Windows users. A Java version is also available on the MumboJumbo web site.

Here's more from the official press release:

Chainz presents a board full of multi-colored links. Players rotate them to form chains of three or more same-colored links. As the chains disappear, additional links drop down to adding the possibility of new combinations forming that score extra points! Some bonus links multiply points earned while others serve as "wild links" that can be joined with links of any color. As players clear links from the board, a meter on the side of the screen fills; when it hits the top, the level ends and the next challenge begins.

In later levels, players secure high scores by forging chains whose links bear one or more letters in "CHAINZ," but they also have to contend with the black links, which can't be rotated but can be included in chains. Those in need of assistance can click the "Get Hint!" button, but they will lose 2,500 points in the process.

"Chainz is the next evolutionary step in puzzle games," said Brian Moon, President of MumboJumbo. "It incorporates the best game play of other successful puzzle titles and adds a few unique twists that will definitely keep the game fresh and exciting for a long time to come. This game doesn't have a single weak link."

Players can choose to play either normal or timed games. In the former, the game ends when there are no more moves on the board; in the latter, the meter on the side of the screen must be filled before time runs out in each level. In addition, Chainz allows players to switch between window and full-screen modes, keep track of their success on the high score board, and pause or save the action so they can return to it later.

A free trail versio nof Chaiz is available at the MumboJumbo web site. Registration codes, which unlock the full game, can be purchased for $19.99.

Warbirds Battle of Midway Promo
7:48 AM | Alvaro Radigales | Comment on this story

iEntertainment Network, developers of the award-winning online flight simulator series Warbirds, seem to be keeping on with their tradition of hosting massive events related to historical air battles of the Second World War. This time they are focusing their attention on the Battle of Midway,

Fought in 1942, the Battle of Midway was not only the first naval battle in which only aircraft carriers saw action, but also the first naval battle in History in which, thanks to carrier-based fighters and fighter-bombers, ships from both sides never saw each other. Now, thanks to the servers in totalsims.com, you can join hundreds of armchair pilots worldwide in this epic battle to change the tide of the war in a well-orchestrated event taking place in December 5.

In the InsideMacGames forum post where this announcement was contained, we find another interesting subject: iEntertainment is apparently going to drift a bit from their online tradition with the release in 2004 of a single-player game called AirPower Pacific: From Pearl Harbor to Midway. Here is a brief excerpt of the forum post on this matter:

iEntertainment Network is developing a new retail single player game called AirPower Pacific: Pearl Harbor to Midway for release in early 2004. This game will be a follow up product to the highly anticipated History Channel Battle of Britain game developed by iEntertainment and released by Activision Value Inc.

AirPower Pacific: Pearl Harbor to Midway includes the new "AutoCo-Pilot" feature recently developed by iEntertainment Network. It also includes real satellite terrain topography of real places in the world where these great battles took place. This new game is expected to be released in March 2004
Be sure to follow the links below for the complete forum post and the Total Sims web site, in which you can find more information on this event and the upcoming title, as well as sign up for online action.
