Apple Details X2: Wolverine's Revenge
8:58 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story

Apple's Brad Cook has updated the company's Games website with a new look at Aspyr Media's upcoming release of of X2: Wolverine's Revenge.

The article takes an in-depth look at the story behind the game, and also outlines the character's past at Marvel Comics. Also, it is well-researched, and paints Wolverine as a guy that even this writer would like:

Wolverine is also well-known for his cantankerous attitude and tendency to drink a lot of beer and smoke a lot of cigars (neither of which do any damage thanks to his healing ability), which has endeared him to fans who identify with the misunderstood loner with a chip on his shoulder. Wolverine’s unrequited love for teammate Jean Grey, who has a relationship with Scott Summers (Cyclops), also makes him a sympathetic figure.

While his history doesn’t stretch as far back as Batman or Superman, Wolverine has still managed to gain almost as much popularity during his almost 30 years in existence. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise most long-time fans if he eventually starred in his own movie.

Click on the link below to check out the article. And while you're at it, click on the IMG Store link where you can pre-order the game for as low as $43.95.

Uru Preview Posted, PC Release In November
8:58 AM | Johan Hansén | Comment on this story

The people at GameSpot has posted a preview of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst, the upcoming adventure game from Cyan. Uru is the next chapter in the highly popular Myst series and it will add some new aspects to the saga, such as a fully explorable 3D world, third person perspective and the possibility to play the game online. Still, the game would keep the clean interface seen in the previous games.

    From the preview:

As you'd expect from a Myst game, Uru's onscreen interface is very minimal. There are no inventory indicators, health meters, compasses, maps, or anything else cluttering up the screen at all as you play the game. The lack of onscreen clutter gives the game a very clean look and allows you to concentrate on taking in the game's beautiful environments. Even the cursor you use to interact with the world is uncomplicated; it's a simple circle. If you mouse-over something that can be pushed, pulled, or otherwise disturbed, the circle intuitively fills in with a dot to indicate a hotspot. Moving around the environments can be done with just the mouse, but those who have played an action game or two may find it easier to map the movement controls to the keyboard along with the jump button.
To read the full preview, head over to GameSpot through the link provided below.

The Riven Unofficial Home Page recently reported that Ubi Soft has scheduled URU for a PC release in November. There has still been no word on a Macintosh version of Uru, but since we have seen all previous incarnations of the series on the Mac, we have to hope that we will see this amazingly looking game coming to the Mac in the near future.

    Doulber Gold Trailer Posted
8:58 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Phelios, shareware maker of titles such as Helix and Drip Drop, has posted a trailer of their upcoming title Doulber: Gold Edition. Made using the PTK engine, Doulber is a 2D action/puzzle title that puts players in the shoes of Doulber the ant, challenging players to collect diamonds while solving various puzzles:

Puzzles have a completely different goal. You must first find a key, then the door in which the key fits. The puzzle levels look like other regular levels and can be played like them, but if the challenge is taken on, you’re expected to solve the puzzle without any instructions – If you succeed, you earn a mega bonus! In addition, the only way to solve some of these puzzles is to use a meditation maneuver, which is up to the player to discover. Some puzzle levels are in secret levels, making them even more elusive...
Doulber is currently available for pre-order, though a demo is yet to be released. More information can be found at Phelios's site, through the link below.
