Warrior Kings Goes Gold

Feral Interactive's Camille Thouvenin let IMG know that their latest game, Warrior Kings for the Macintosh has gone gold. A medieval RTS title, Warrior Kings allows players to command hundreds of troops and choose their path of evolution during play.

Warrior Kings is now in manufacturing and will be shipping at the end of July, which means that it should be appearing in stores around August 15th.
The system requirements for Warrior Kings is as follows:
  • Mac OS 9.1 / 10.1.3
  • 500 MHz G3
  • 128 MB RAM (OS 9), 256 MB RAM (OS X)
  • 8MB Graphics Card

    IMG Reviews Unreal Tournament 2003

    IMG's Michael Yanovich has written a review on MacSoft's latest and greatest first person shooter Unreal Tournament 2003. The review covers everything from graphics to gameplay, sound, and online multiplayer. Here's a sneak peak of what's inside:

    The games are played on four distinct ladders -- deathmatch and capture the flag should be familiar to any fan of the genre. Domination returns from UT, though mutated into a new variant called Double Domination that requires your team to control two different locations of the map at the same time, for ten seconds. It's not as easy at it sounds, and is one of the most hair-raising, stressful games I've played lately. And that's a compliment! The final game variation is some ridiculously thrown together sport that requires you to take a ball and throw it through your opponent's goal. The only catch is that while you are holding the ball, you can't shoot your weapon. If you want to win the single player campaign you'll be forced to go through several of these levels, but don't expect a lot of players to join you in a web-based match, because it doesn't seem to be very popular online.

    Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword Interview at GameSpot

    Gaming publication GameSpot has posted a new interview on the upcoming expansion set to the popular Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword. In the interview, GameSpot sits down with Ubi Soft Milan's producer Nicola Aitoro to talk about just a few of the game's many new aspects, including added content, gameplay additions, audio, graphics, and more. Here's a snippit:

    GS: What multiplayer modes and content will be included in Athena Sword?

    NA: There will be four new multiplayer modes: adversarial terrorist hunt, adversarial scattered hunt (these should already be familiar), capture the enemy, and kamikaze. The last two are completely new and deserve a detailed explanation. In CTE, players never die, but once shot, they surrender, and the other player has eight seconds to get to them and handcuff them. Once handcuffed, a player can do nothing but move the third-person camera and wait for a teammate to free him.

    In kamikaze, a random member of the green team is chosen to be the bomb carrier. He is equipped with a pistol only and a heartbeat sensor. Green team must find the defusing kit, which is located at the red team base, while red team should either kill the bomb carrier or find the detonator at the green team base.

    For the full scoop, check out the interview. Although Raven Shield is currently not planned for Mac, Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, and Ghost Recon, most Tom Clancy games, have been ported to the Mac. And, considering the game uses the Unreal Warfare engine, currently available on the Mac, a port is quite possible.     Logitech MOMO Racing Wheel Review Updated

    Over the weekend, an astute reader pointed out two errors in the Logitech MOMOŽ Racing wheel review that was posted last Thursday. It incorrectly stated that it lacked a three-way clamping system and omitted the fact that the sequential shifter was adjustable. The review has since been updated and the rating has been changed accordingly.

    OIDS For Mac OS X Now Available

    Kirk Baker of Xavagus Prime Software last year re-released an updated version of a classic arcade game called OIDS. The original was released back in 1991 by FTL Games, a company Baker had worked for back in the early 90's. The re-release of OIDS was well-received expect for one thing: no Mac OS X version. On Friday, however, Xavagus released the long-awaited Mac OS X version.

    Here's from on the OS X version from the Xavagus Prime web site:

    That's right, the long-awaited release of a version of OIDS for Mac OS X is finally here. OIDS.X is compatible with Mac OS X version 10.1.3 or higher. It can run in thousands or millions of colors modes. OIDS.X uses OpenGL for lightning fast graphics and smooth gameplay. All of the sounds have been recreated, (some of them are new) in 16-bit CD-quality. All of the graphics have been redone by Drew Pauley, Bill Densmore and Kirk Baker. There are new visual effects like larger stars, galaxy images in the background, particle effects and much improved explosions.

    Master of Orion III 1.2.5 Patch Available

    MacSoft has quietly released a new patch for the spacefaring strategy title Master of Orion III. The patch, labeled as version 1.2.5, brings with it a large number of fixes and tweaks.

    Some of the bug fixes are as follows:

    • Fixed a hang in space combat which seemed to occur sometimes if a client was watching the last combat to be resolved.
    • The screen would go blank after combat and just sit there (on the client). Everyone else would hang waiting for that client.
    • Removed the ability control bombardment after ceding/watching space combat in multi-player due to hang conditions caused by this functionality (it wasn't working on the clients any way) - may be revisited in the future.
    • Fixed a bug where if the military build queue was open and then the
    • Shipyards screen was opened on top of it and then a turn was processed, the game would crash.
    • Fixed a bug where if one of the tabs on the ship design screen was open and then the fleets tab was open and then escape was used to exit, the game would crash.
    • Fixed a bug on the Forces tab where the colony and outpost buttons would not be disabled if there were no planets in the system (could lead to a crash).
    Other fixes include adjustments to various aspects of Colonization, Technology, Diplomacy, and AIs. Links to download the patch as well as the lengthy readme file can be found at the link provided below.

    The Sims 2 Designer Diary

    GameSpot has posted a designer diary that takes a look at the development ideas behind The Sims 2, the upcoming sequel to the wildly successful series The Sims. Written by Senior Producer Tim LeTourneau, the diary covers topics such as team assembly, feature ideas, and types of gameplay.

    One of the planned features discussed is the various stages of development Sims will undergo as they mature:

    We decided on six distinct age ranges that make up the classic periods of life: babies, toddlers, children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. Each stage is punctuated by "big life moments," rites of passage we all equate with growing up: a toddler's first steps, a teen's first kiss, getting married, and kicking the bucket. Players will have to navigate through each of these stages and face the strategic challenges that each age presents. In this dynamic playspace, the best opportunities come when different age groups interact: the moody teen who torments her younger sibling, the crotchety grandpa who complains incessantly to his children, or the baby who throws up when played with a little too exuberantly by the baby-sitter. What happens to these sims as they grow through each of those stages deeply affects how they develop and the way they behave. To keep track of that development, we have given players a measurement called "life score." A sim's "life score" directly reflects the kind of life the player has helped the sim lead. Players will be rewarded for exploring both the positive and negative sides of life.
    LeTourneau also discusses the passing on of traits, where Sims who have offspring will pass down both physical and behavioral traits to them. The cosmetic appearances of created Sims are also highly customizable, right down to facial features.

    The rest of the diary covers subjects such as house building, Sim intelligence, and other design options.
