Shadowbane Patch Screen Shots
6:32 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
UbiSoft has released some preview screenshots of an upcoming patch for their MMORPG Shadowbane. The patch is significant in that it introduces new features that have been high on the list of player requests for quite some time.
Among the new features demonstrated are the new friends list, a new fast junk management window, and the Refiner. The Refiner in particular should come as a boon to players, as this character allows one to untrain skills and powers to recover points that may have been better spent elsewhere. The new friends list should also make it easier to keep track of online friends.
Those interested in taking a look at the screenshots can find them at the official SB site.

New Q3-Based Game Underway
12:25 PM | Galen Wiley | Comment on this story
Independent game developer BroadCraft Interactive Studios has announced a new project in the making; a Quake 3: Arena based mod with a heavy emphasis on singleplayer as well as multiplayer. While is the game is currently untitled, the developers have provided a substancial amount of information, including details on character classes, multiplayer modes, and even screenshots. Here's the full announcement:
We, at BroadCraft Studios, have been working on an intense First Person Action Game for a little over a year now. Using the Quake3 Arena Technology we are creating an alien based hardcore action game with some Role Playing elements. This game is not to be related or compared to the Alien movie franchise. The single player portion of the game will take the player on an unique and instensive story driven adventure. The very immerse story was written by Chris and Andreas. While no Mac version of the game has yet been mentioned, given the number of Quake 3 titles ported to the Mac, we consider the possibility much greater because of the nature of the engine. Be sure to check out the projects page for more information and screenshots.

The game will also include a Mutliplayer portion with some very unique multiplayer game modes not forgeting the classics, Free For All and Capture the Flag.

What is clan upkeep? For more information, be sure to check out the official FAQ. If you would like to purchase Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, you can do at the IMG Store for the low price of $34.95. Note that a full version of Warcraft III is required to play.
Frozen Throne Clan F.A.Q.
Clan upkeep is simply the activity requirement that Battle.net imposes on clans. Battle.net will automatically disband clans it considers to be inactive. To be considered an active clan and prevent the clan from being deleted for inactivity, the chieftain must log in at least once every 28 days. In addition, at least 10 clan members (including the chieftain) must log in once every 28 days.

IMG Reviews Midiland IRS-F1 Wireless Headphones
11:48 AM | Lucian Fong | Comment on this story
Midiland's IRS-F1 wireless headphones boasts an integrated battery charger, analog and S/PDIF inputs, 1/4-inch headphone jack, and "virtual" 5.1 processing — all at a competitive price point, but does it have sound quality to match? Greg Gant puts this pair of headphones to the test. Here is an excerpt from the review:
The most interesting feature of the Midiland headphones is "virtual 5.1 surround sound". Headphones cannot physically contain five speakers so surround sound ‘phones must emulate multi-channel audio on two speakers. I assumed that the headphones supported Dolby Digital because the receiver sported an optical port, but I noticed the manual had no mention of Dolby Digital or even Dolby ProLogic support. A quick test confirmed that the receiver indeed did not support Dolby Digital. The optical port only supports standard PCM audio so if it’s connected directly to a DVD player, it might require some configuration in the DVD player’s hardware settings. For more information on the IRS-F1, read the rest of the review.

PlayMyth Status On Various Myth Updates
10:55 AM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
The PlayMyth web site has recently been updated with news of new upcoming builds of all three Myth games by Bungie Software. Here's the updates on all three products:
Myth II: v1.4.1 Beta Testing
A new beta of Myth II v1.4.1 will be released within the coming days. This will feature some more bug fixes, some performance (FPS) enhancements and some overall improvements. This will be available for download right here on PlayMyth.net and MythDev.com. We'll have another announcement when this is ready to be released. We're working to be sure the bugs are gone, the features are back and that everything is rock-solid and stable before we release. The last thing anyone here wants is another bug-riddled game.
Myth III: v1.2
We hope to have another Myth III build by the end of the weekend for both Windows and Macintosh. This will feature some improvements and the windows version will actually work this time! :) Some compiler issues caused problems with the previous Myth III build for windows. Some of the enhancements coming include an added preference for control bars, some general screen bug fixes and a fix to the problem with reverting to a saved game vs. restarting a level on the solo game.
PlayMyth is now working feverishly to support Myth TFL. We hope to have support for TFL as soon as this weekend. There are two scenarios currently playing out for TFL support. One is a temporary measure until we have the permanent measures in place and another is just waiting for the permanent measures. One way or another - TFL play is coming - and coming fast. We have some other exciting news about TFL but we're not quite ready to let that cat out of the bag as of yet.
There are currently two versions of Myth II and Myth III already on the PlayMyth web site. To download them, and for more news on these updates, head over to the PlayMyth web site.

Quake Expo 2003 Underway
6:32 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story
For all your Quake 1 fans out there, Quake Expo 2003 is now underway! Quake Expo is a sort of virtual expo in which Quake 1 coders, artists, map makers, etc. meet to share work, collaborate, and just play some Quake. Here's how their website describes the event:
Qexpo is to Quake 1 what a meeting like E3 is to game developers. It's a chance for all Quake 1 coders, mappers, skinners and modelers to get together during a limited period of time (6th to 13th of July) to show their skills. Unlike E3, Qexpo is a virtual meeting, that is, the meeting place is a site(http://www.qexpo.com/) and not a "real" place. However, much like E3, Qexpo also offers booths (even if virtual) and many opportunities for Quake 1 fans to get together, during IRC and QuakeWorld parties. The Expo runs until the 13th, so be sure to head on over to the website and check out some of the events.
