Neverwinter Nights Tech Demo Tuesday
1:07 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

MacSoft today announced that the Neverwinter Nights Beta Tech Demo for Macintosh will be made available to the public on June 17th through free download. The NWN tech demo will be available for download through our sister site, Macgamefiles.com.

Here's more from the official press release:

The most complete software adaptation ever of the classic pen-and-paper Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, Neverwinter Nights is a best-selling PC game and the latest release from BioWare Corp., creators of the nearly 5 million-selling Baldur's Gate series.

Players will enjoy a fast-paced adventure, revolving around an epic story of faith, war and betrayal. The intuitive user interface was designed to be accessible to new RPG gamers as well as the hardcore fan base.

More than just a game, Neverwinter Nights breaks new ground as the first complete role-playing system for the computer platform, allowing players to step into the shoes of either a hero or the Dungeon Master to tell their own stories and create their own adventures in the spirit of the exciting pen and paper original.

"Neverwinter Nights is one of this year's most eagerly-anticipated Mac releases because of its fast-paced adventure, online multiplayer capabilities, the new Dungeon Master feature and a whole lot more," according to MacSoft's general manager Al Schilling.

"Neverwinter Nights will provide limitless adventure and Macintosh gamers will have unprecedented game play options as they join the existing Neverwinter Nights community," said Trent Oster, BioWare's Project Director and Producer of Neverwinter Nights.

The Neverwinter Nights tech demo requires a Macintosh computer with a 450Mhz (or faster) processor, 256MB RAM, 32MB video card, and 645MB hard disk space.

IMG Previews Zoo Tycoon
1:46 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story

IMG has posted a preview of Aspyr's upcoming zoo simulation, Zoo Tycoon. Here's a clip from the preview:

Zoo Tycoon, like most titles of its type, is broken up into two main game types. The first type presents players with a set of increasingly difficult scenarios to complete. Usually limited to a specific time frame, the objectives contained within the scenarios can range from the successful upkeep of several exhibits to the raising and breeding of giant pandas. Also included in the scenario listing are a set of tutorials for those that would rather not read the instruction manual.

The second game type is the freeform type. As its name suggests, this mode allows players complete freedom in which to make their zoos. Players can choose a starting map from a wide variety, including a jungle lagoon, arctic maze, and desert pyramids. The amount of starting cash is also completely adjustable, allowing novices to start out wealthy while affording experts the change to start dirt poor.

    Kimdom Come Released
10:25 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story

theDailyGrind, maker of multiple different shareware titles, has released their latest title, Kimdom Come. The game is a new take on the classic Missile Command series, using humorous imagery over the classic gameplay.

Here's DailyGrind's description of the game:

Discover the enlightenment of Juche Socialism from Kim Jong-Il's Glorious Missile Command Balcony. Marvel at wonderous new waving-at-parades technology, and the entirely peaceful "sea of fire" program, successor to the moribund "field of food" scheme.

Use your Flying Dong 2 missiles to fend off detente with the puppets of the south. With President Roh & his "sunshine" policy out of the way, you won't have to suffer his donations of food and oil ever again! Blasting aid, waving at parades, eliminating traitors, nuking your own cities... it's fun! fun! fun! north of the DMZ.

Although the action will become fast and furious, victory is surely within the grasp of a Dear Leader whose official biography notes that his birth was marked by a new star, and who composed six operas, designed the Juche Tower, and invented the tractor.

All the game requires is OS 8.6 or higher, and it runs natively in OSX. For more information, or to download the game, follow the link below.

XBox HID Driver Developer Seeks Testers
8:47 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story

Darrell Walisser, developer of the XBox HID Driver for Mac OS X, has recently put up a post in IMG's forums concerning the current status of his project. Given the interest that he's seen in the project, he notes that a major update is on the way, and seeks interested parties to help him test it:

I'm currently nearing completion of a major update that adds a preference pane to customize how the controller works as well as a way to visualize the various elements. I'm looking for people (like you) who would be interested in testing this software before a general public release. Mostly, I am looking for feedback on what features you want that I may have missed. Any bug reports will be invaluable, of course.
Besides providing a link to a screenshot of the preference pane, he also notes that with the beta and some tinkering to the User.ini file, Mac gamers will be able to play Unreal Tournament 2003 using the XBox controller if they wish.

Those interested in beta testing need simply drop him an e-mail at walisser@mac.com.
