Hearts of Iron Coming to the Mac 9:18 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Paradox Entertainment has announced another agreement with Mac publisher Virtual Programming to bring Hearts of Iron to the Mac. You may recall last year the two companies started to bring other Paradox strategy titles Europa Universalis II and Legion to the platform as well. This continuation of their contract only means good things for Mac strategy gamers. Hearts of Iron is a real-time strategic look at World War II, spanning the years from 1936-1946. Here's a quick description from their site: Hearts of Iron is the first ever World War II PC game of true Grand Strategic scope. The game map spans the entire world and allows players to take the War to any new front of their choosing. Any nation in the world is playable, but the game focuses on the epic struggle between the great alliances of the new world orders Fascism, Communism and Democracy. Hearts of Iron game was just released for the PC earlier this winter, and the Mac version should ship out later in 2003. Virtual Programming lists Legion as being in testing and Europa Universalis II as being in late development, with both set for a Q1 release.

IMG Previews Payback 1:32 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
IMG has posted a preview of Payback, the action-packed game that pays homage to the mega-hit, Grand Theft Auto. The game was ported to the Mac by Virtual Programming and is scheduled for release in North America shortly (it is currently available in Europe) and will be distributed by Freeverse Software. Here's a clip from the preview: Anyone who remembers the original installment of Grand Theft Auto, with its violence-for-the-sake-of-violence gameplay, will find Payback instantly familiar. Played from a bird's eye view perspective, this full 3D game will have you racing across various large cityscapes, on foot or in all manner of vehicles, committing more crimes than I personally would have thought humanly possible. The more death, damage, and havoc you wreak, the greater your score?points are awarded for everything from murder to carjacking to just plain blowin' stuff up. This is definitely not a game for impressionable kids, the morally upright, or just about anyone who can't handle absurd amounts of motor vehicle induced mayhem. To learn more about Payback, be sure to check out the complete article.

Rage Hard Forum Opens 9:18 AM | Jean-Luc Dinsdale | Comment on this story
Multi-platform publishers Titan Computer have started a web-based forum for their upcoming game, Rage Hard. Rage Hard is a modern, urban-based multiplayer tactical shooter. Moving beyond the traditional commandos vs. terrorists scenarios, Rage Hard allows players to navigate through more modern and urban settings playing as punks, corporate workers, gang members, and even satanic worshipers. Set in a not-too-distant future, the game features a fully-3D environment and over twenty weapons from which to choose. Current system requirements for the game call for a Power Mac G3 or G4 powered at at least 500Mhz, equipped with either a Geforce2 or Radeon 7000 graphics card. Titan expects to have a playable public beta available by the summer. For more information on this upcoming title, follow the links listed below to access either the game's website or forums. And, as always, stay tuned to IMG as more news of this new title becomes available.

GtkRadiant coming to Mac OS X 9:18 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story
A post was recently made on the Quake 3 World forums indicating that the Quake 3 map editor, GtkRadiant, is on its way to Mac OS X. The post states that they have the editor working under OS X thanks to the beta of Apple's X11, a program which allows users of OS X to run X Windows programs. Here's the post: Better late than never.I'm pleased to announce that GtkRadiant now builds and runs with hardware OpenGL acceleration on Mac OS X, under Apple's new X11 Public Beta. It's not finished yet (setup is woefully undercooked) but we'd like to release the next version of GtkRadiant for OS X along with its Win32 and Linux siblings. This is certainly excellent news for all the Mac users out there who have been hoping for a way to create Quake 3 maps on their Macs. To run the editor when it is released, you'll need the X11 beta, which requires Mac OS 10.2.3. For more information on GtkRadiant and X11, follow the links below.

WarCraft III Expansion Info 9:18 AM | Mike Apps | Comment on this story
WarcraftIII.Net has reported that the sister publication to Computer Gaming World, GameNOW, will have exclusive information on an upcoming expansion to Blizzard Entertainment's hit Real-Time Strategy game, Warcraft III, in its next issue. For anyone not familiar with Warcraft III, it is the latest in the fantasy Real-Time Strategy series, in which players wage war as one of four races. The game features a campaign mode spanning through stories of all four races, along with multiplayer support on battle.net. Here's the news item from WarcraftIII.net: Computer Gaming World's sister publication, GameNOW, the magazine for "8-12 year olds who want to be 17," has announced that the February Issue of Computer Gaming World will reveal (ummmm... "confirm" maybe ;) ) the Expansion for Warcraft III:
WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne The war in Azeroth is not over! Blizzard is hard at work on the expansion pack to its blockbuster strategy game, and Computer Gaming World has the world-exclusive scoop. Don't miss it!
Look for that issue in stores the first week in February. Subscribers usually receive their issues earlier. When I receive mine, we'll have info up a quickly as possible. Although certainty not an official conformation, it is certainly interesting news none the less. For more information, follow the link below. If you haven't already picked up a copy of Warcraft III, you can order it from the IMG Store for just $35.
