World War II Online Mac Now Shipping

In a recent press release, publisher Strategy First and developer Cornered Rat Software have announced that World War II Online Mac Edition, the long-awaited Mac version of the popular massive online war sim for the PC, has begun shipping to a store shelf near you.

Publisher Strategy First with Developer Cornered Rat Software and Playnet.com are happy to announce that their latest online offering, World War II Online Mac Edition¸ has shipped to retail stores nationwide.

“We are very happy that a whole new audience can finally get in on the World War II Online experience,” says Steve Milburn, Director of Marketing for Strategy First. “It’s going to make the game even more exciting.”

World War II Online Mac Edition is a combined arms simulation in a persistent, online 3D environment that brings the action-packed days of World War II to life on your Mac. Players can create a character, climb the ranks and gain experience to create and lead combat missions with and against thousands of other players in the most dynamic, first person war game ever!

“The Mac players have waited over a year to join the fight and the interest shown is incredible, ” says Al Corey of Playnet. “For the first time the Mac guys have a true massively multiplayer virtual battlefield. There’s nothing else like it.”

    The Third Reich Download Issues Fixed

    Shortly after the highly anticipated Unreal Tournament Mod, The Third Reich was released, many Mac users reported that it was not working correctly. The Third Reich team has fixed the problem, and a corrected download is now available. For those unfamiliar with the Third Reich, it is a total-conversion for Unreal Tournament that turns it into a World War II based game with realistic gameplay and impressive models and textures.

    Here's a list of features in the mod:

  • Two sides with 11 available roles, 15 weapons and all about realism, teamwork and tactics
  • Realistic weapon models, handling and bullet behavior including ballistics and penetration

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 Goes Beta

    Mac game publisher Aspyr Media today announced on their project status page that their upcoming skatebording sim for the Mac, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 has reached Beta status, meaning the game is nearing completiopn and now is being tested for bugs.

    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is the hit skateboarding game from Neversoft that offers 10 massive levels, 12 pro skaters, tons of different multiplayer modes, an enhanced create-a-skater tool, and more.

    Here's a description from Aspyr's website:

    Tony Hawk, the legend of skateboarding, brings you into his world yet again with even more cement shredding action than ever before! Go high flying through some of the coolest skateparks in the world. Pull insane tricks and bails, but beware of the pedestrians and cars along the streets. You may not be able to live like the legend, but now you can skate like him!

    Features include:

  • All new online play lets you go head to head or share with friends around the world.
  • Multiplayer Modes: all the old favorites plus three new team based online games- Capture the flag, Control the Zone and Keep Away.
  • Skate as the legendary Tony Hawk or choose from 12 other pro skaters

    Freeverse to Distribute Payback In North America

    In a recent announcement, popular Mac gaming company Freeverse Software has revealed that they will be distributing the latest ultra-violent GTA-esque vehicle game, Payback, when it is released later this month. The game was ported to the Mac by Virtual Programming.

    Here's the full announcement, hot off the press:

    Freeverse Software today posted a new page for the ultraviolent car-thieving game Payback. The new page contains screenshots of the game, as well as a notification list that allows users to receive an alert when the game becomes available in North America.

    Published in the United Kingdom by Virtual Programming, and originally developed by Apex Designs, the game features all the fun of automobile thievery and random violence without any of the pesky life-changing consequences.

    The game supports an advanced 3D rendering and physics engine, an explicit soundtrack, and an advanced 3D audio system. Payback also features built-in support for English, French, and German languages.

    Freeverse also notes that Payback is for mature gamers only, due to wanton violence, animated gore, explicit language, and narcotrafficking.     Heroes of Might and Magic IV Shipping

    Might and Magic fans should be happy to hear that Heroes of Might and Magic IV has recently started shipping to retail stores nationwide in the U.S. Developed by New World Computingand ported to the Mac by Contraband Entertainment, Heroes of Might and Magic IV continues the turn-based RPG tradition set by its predecessors with new creatures, artifacts, and magic.

    The storyline marks the fourth chapter in the series:

    In this fourth chapter of the "Heroes" series, Emilia Nighthaven must
    battle the evil immortal King Gavin Magnus and his horde of Dragon Golems.
    Featuring six campaigns, Emilia matches wits with Magnus for control of all
    of Axeoth, encountering over 60 new creatures, five schools of magic, six
    town types, and more than 180 artifacts.
    Listed features include multiple screen resolution support, six gigantic campaigns, a campaign editor, online play, and new magic and skill systems.
