New Medal of Honor Screenshots Available 6:00 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
The folks at Aspyr Media let us know yesterday that they have made available some new screenshots of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The shots are from the third level of the game, which involves the storming of Omaha beach, and are quite compelling, showing scenes such as the boat ride up to the beach, a view through a sniper scope, and soldiers covering their heads as a nearby explosion kicks up a huge cloud of sand and debris. The shots themselves are quite large and are all TIFF files. They are available as a zipped download that weighs in at 13.9 MB, a little hefty for those without broadband, but well worth it for those wanting to take a closer look at this upcoming title. Aspyr plans on releasing a batch of ten screenshots from a new level every Monday from now until the game hits store shelves. For those unfamiliar with the title, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault is a first-person shooter that places players squarely in the midst of World War II. More information on this title can be found in IMG's recent preview.

GeForce4 Titanium Shipping from Apple 1:59 PM | Sean Smith | Comment on this story
MacCentral reports that some of its readers have reported receiving notification from Apple that their Nvidia GeForce4 Ti AGP video cards are shipping: Although Apple has been offering the more mainstream GeForce4 MX graphics card since its introduction in February, the GeForce4 Ti-based cards have, up until now, been non-existent despite the release of PC-compatible graphics cards based on the same chip design by a multitude of Windows-friendly third party graphics card makers. This shortage caused Apple to volunteer to send Power Mac G4 systems equipped with GeForce4 MX cards to those customers who had backordered the GeForce4 Ti-equipped configurations, with the guarantee that once a GeForce4 Ti-based card was available, it would be sent to them. In the past day, customers who have taken delivery of those configurations have received e-mail from the Apple Store confirming that GeForce4 Ti-equipped video cards are now on their way "at no charge." The Apple Store has also thanked customers for their patience during the long delay. For the full story, follow the link below to MacCentral. IMG, Others Win Moofie Gaming Awards 1:29 PM | Sean Smith | Comment on this story
Applelinks has announced the winners of their Moofie Awards for the 2001 gaming year: It's been another banner year for Macintosh gaming. This year's Moofie nominees drew from a much wider range of games, and no single title swept the nominations. The quality of their programming hasn't gone unnoticed by either the Moofie committee or Macintosh gamers. The nominees in each of the Oscar-inspired Moofie categories were selected by a panel of Mac journalists and voted upon by Mac gamers at the Applelinks web site.Highlights of the Moofies for 2001, the competition's third year, include the awarding of Best Picture to Giants: Citizen Kabuto, Best Documentary to Inside Mac Games, and a Lifetime Achievement Award to Glenda Adams and Westlake Interactive. IMG Interviews Aspyr's Ted Staloch 12:25 PM | Tuncer Deniz | Comment on this story
When it comes to the Mac gaming scene, few publishers are out there, getting it done like Aspyr Media. Thanks to Aspyr, the Mac is home to such heavy hitters as Lara Croft, Tony Hawk, gothic Alice, and those shifty monkeys from Escape from Monkey Island. So, how do they do it? How does Aspyr secure such A-List titles? Well, it starts with people like Ted Staloch. Recently, IMG had a chance to chat with Ted about being a Deal Maker™ at Aspyr Media. Here's a snippet: Being a "dealer" in the Mac game market is like the music and movie industry. You are as good as your last hit. Also, Aspyr is made of so many talented and unselfish people, it's hard to decipher at times who reasons for a hit.Tomb Raider II was a make or break deal that Michael and I bet the farm and Aspyr harvested a great crop. Our pitch was the same in '96 as it is six years later, we will do everything in our power to protect the brand, integrity of the game, and represent the title to the fullest of our abilities to that specific licensed platform. We are forever thankful to Eidos and Core for trusting our intentions, along with Westlake Interactive for an amazing conversion effort. And, of course Apple for an awesome turn-around after '96. Be sure to read on to learn about the inner workings of Mac game publishing.

Unreal Tournament X Feedback Requested 10:09 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
Yesterday evening, Westlake Interactive's Glenda Adams posted to Usenet newsgroup comp.sys.mac.games.action concerning the state of Unreal Tournament for Mac OS X. In her reply to a gamer's post about the status of a fourth Unreal Tournament X preview, Adams asks gamers to tell her what to focus on next. As an unpaid side project, there are limited resources to work on Unreal Tournament X, and so if you have an idea of what you'd like to see, it's time to speak up. Here's an excerpt from her post: There have been a few dozen reports to the UT X feedback address, but they are pretty wide ranging as far as bugs and other problems (no one bug seems to be cropping up for every user). So rather than fixing a few things here and there, on a whim, I thought I'd ask here to see what the newsgroup consensus is:What's the most important thing you'd like fixed/updated in UT X Preview 4? Speed, stability, particular maps/mods that aren't working right, music, windowed mode (being able to switch to the desktop), more tweaks to mouse code, dedicated server, tweaking/replacing sound system, graphics tweaks (try to fix black squares, etc). Or anything I've missed that's not on the list. As always, there is no guarantee when the next preview will be released, but we'll keep on it and let you know how it's progressing. If you don't have newsgroup access, use the Google link below to participate in the thread.

Official Unreal Tournament 2003 Page Live 6:00 AM | Eddie Park | Comment on this story
Publisher Infogrames recently made live the official web site for Unreal Tournament 2003. Currently in development by Epic Games and Digital Extremes, this highly-anticipated shooter features several new weapons, a new game mode titled Bombing Run, and a number of new races and models. Here's a clip from the site's opening page: Unreal Tournament 2003 is a lightning-fast, no-holds-barred sport of the future, where warriors face off like the Gladiators of ancient Rome to determine the ultimate combatant. Super human reflexes, awesome weapons and the skill to use them effectively are what separate the good from the bad, the living from the dead, the victor from vanquished.Unreal Tournament 2003 can be played alone, against computer-controlled 'bots' or against human opponents via LAN or the Internet. The single player experience revolves around progress through a tournament ladder where you play alone or as leader of a team of warriors you select to take on the enemy in the various modes of combat. As your team wins, you'll work your way up through the leagues until the challenge to ultimate combat is met and the true Champion determined. Included on the site are a news center, a FAQ, forums, and a gallery that features some gorgeous shots of Unreal Tournament 2003 in action, including what appears to be the Link gun. Interested gamers should definitely head over and give the site a look.

Apple Previews Stronghold 6:00 AM | Sean Smith | Comment on this story
Apple has posted a preview by Brad Cook on its Games web pages of Stronghold, the new castle-building real-time strategy simulation from MacSoft. Here's an excerpt: Early in the film Excalibur, a young King Arthur rides with his loyal knights to assist Leondegrance, whose castle is under siege by enemy forces. In a pitched battle, Arthur defeats the enemy knights, bringing the mythic hero one step closer to unifying Britain under his rule.If you've ever wished that a videogame could capture the power and excitement of that moment, then the castle-builder/real-time strategy (RTS) game Stronghold is for you. It's the latest title from MacSoft, who made sure you can visit the Middle Ages in either Mac OS X or Mac OS 9. Firefly Studios developed Stronghold, and executive producer/co-designer Eric Ouellette says: "We thought that a medieval setting with a blend of strong builder and RTS elements would make a fantastic game. The medieval period had a lot of fantastic siege equipment, pageantry, weaponry, and customs. We really wanted to focus in on these areas and give people a flavor of what it was like to live in medieval times." For the rest of Apple's preview, including a brief description of Stronghold's multiplayer support and of its military and economic campaign types, as well as strategy tips and system requirements, head over to Apple's Games pages, where you'll also find a new trailer for MacPlay's real-time strategy game, Sacrifice.
