In the upcoming release, Return To Castle Wolfenstein from id Software you are B.J. Blazkowicz a highly decorated Army Ranger recruited into the Office of Secret Actions (OSA). You are tasked with escaping and then returning to Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to thwart Heinrich Himmler's occult and genetic experiments. Himmler believes himself to be a reincarnation of a 10th century dark prince, Henry the Fowler, also known as Heinrich. Through genetic engineering and the harnessing of occult powers, Himmler hopes to raise an unstoppable army to level the Allies once and for all.

Failure is not an option. If Himmler succeeds, the war is over for the Allies... and the war is over for everyone.

Todd Hollenshead, CEO of id Software, updated his .plan file last month with more news regarding their WWII first-person shooter, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Simply put, he notes that the Mac version is due out sometime before Christmas. On the heels of this exciting news, (okay it's been a few weeks) I decided this week to create a desktop in honor of the upcoming title. I've been in contact with Caryn "Hellchick" Law of Activision about obtaining some high quality art for the game, but until then I was able to put this desktop together from artwork I found online. Another influence on my decision to dive into the world of WWII first-person shooters was watching the DVD, "Saving Private Ryan". The composition of this desktop reminded me a lot of the cover for the DVD so I decided to title this week's selection, "Saving B.J. Blazkowicz". I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it.

While on the topic of Return To Castle Wolfenstein, I wanted to share how I was able to work around the "Couldn't initialize Open GL Error". My current system is a 400 mHz G4 with 896 megs of ram and an ATI Radeon card. A few months ago I bought a new Flat screen Studio Display monitor which I absolutely love. 2 weeks ago I hooked up my original monitor for a bit because I wanted to play around with the 2 monitor aspect. While I had my original monitor up I tried running Return To Castle Wolfenstein on a lark and I was surprised when I was able to get into the game. I played it for about an hour and had a blast. Of course I altered the settings and set my options up for 1024x768 which is the only resolution I can obtain on my flat screen. When I went back to my 1 monitor setup I tried running the game and it actually worked! I know this might not solve everyone's problem, but I hope this might help a few of you out there. ;D

Tomorrow is an important date. 31 years ago tomorrow yours truly entered this world. I hoped to have Custer's Corner fully functional by tomorrow, but Murphy's Law has taken over. In the meantime be sure to check out the glimpse of my layout at Custer's Corner Layout to see what the web site will look like. :)

Until then...
