Fact or Fiction?
8:55 AM EST | Brad Custer
MWNY 2001 was an eventful occassion.
It was my first trip to New York and I'm happy to report it probably won't be my last.
Actually, my wife will be happier to read that. ;D
Over the years I had developed this great dislike for the city, but overall it was like any other large city - a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.
It was my 2nd Macworld Expo and it was great to see everyone again as I spent a majority of my time in the game center.
I also made sure to secure some artwork for the cornucopia of new games shown at the show.
Hopefully, in the weeks to come I'll be able to feature some of them.
This week's desktop selection was inspired by the MWNY Expo.
During the long keynote speech (some have compared it to a torture session at a POW camp, but I won't mention names) we were given the first look at the new G4 unofficially named "Quicksilver".
I won't go into all the techincal specs, but the one feature that really caught my attention on the redesign case was the speaker in the lower part.
As soon as I saw it I instantly thought of Hal 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
It was one of those rare occassions where I envisioned the entire desktop instantly and during the entire expo it became a running joke between myself and Patrick from IMG.
I knew I had to create it.
I researched the apple web site looking for a straight on product shot much like the free posters they were giving out at the Apple area, but I couldn't find one.
I knew I could scan the poster today at my job, but I wanted to work on the desktop Sunday so I broke out the digital camera and took a photo of the poster, which actually worked. ;D
So, next week I'll return to the regularly scheduled game desktop, but I wanted to do a MWNY desktop.
I hope you enjoy this week's creation as much as I did making it. :)
Finally, there has been progess at my personal site, Custer's Corner.
The title graphic has been up for a few weeks and now that MWNY is over I can hopefully devote some more time to it.
There's still a little html work to do, but I hope to address that this week.
This will be the hub to my web site once it's mapped and guide you to all the sections that my site will have.
I've been toying around with the basic page layout and I think I'm close to a final look that I like.
Until then...
