X-Plane 8 from Laminar Research and Graphsim Entertainment is the most comprehensive and powerful flight simulator available for the personal computer. The game simulates anything that flies: single-engine fixed wing props to multi-engine jets; gliders to dirigibles; helicopters to spacecraft to VTOLs such as the V-22 Osprey and AV8-B Harrier.

It comes with 29 aircraft spanning the aviation industry (and history), and several hundred more are freely downloadable from the Internet.

You can land at any of thousands ofairports, as well as test your mettle on aircraft carriers, helipads on building tops, frigates that pitch and roll in the waves, and oil rigs. Weather is variable from clear skies and high visibility to thunderstorms with controllable wind, wind shear, turbulence, and microbursts.

X-Plane 8 also has detailed failure-modeling, with 35 systems that can be failed manually, or randomly when you least expect it!

You also get Plane-Maker which allows you to create your own airplanes, and World-Maker which lets you create your own scenery. Plus, there is Weather Briefer which produces a weather briefing based on actual weather conditions downloaded from the net.

Since our recent review of X-Plane 8 from Laminar Research and Graphsim Entertainment the data processing aviators have come out of the woodwork with same request - a desktop for the game. Of course, as I've stated more than once over the years, I'm not one to ignore the masses. I created this feature based on the cover art of the box. With the help of Graphsim Entertainment I was able to create this week's wallpaper. I simply entitled this selection, "Fly Anything" as the game states, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it. :)
