Free Mac (and occasionally Windows) games
#41
I like having this thread dedicated to free Mac games. I just didn't notice that Lego LotR was Windows-only. My bad. I've added a comment to my post.

No worries, it isn't the first Windows game in the thread. And most people seem to be Bootcamp gamers here too (I sometimes feel like the only one who is not), so I think people will be fine about it.

Sometimes a Mac version comes later then it usually appears in your Steam Mac library thanks to Steamplay.

We should tar and feather the filthy windows users.

Or at the very least, fart in their general direction.

(Not a BootCamp user here either btw. I had it back in the day for the occasional Skyrim session, but the constant stream of Windows updates became boring.)

And now with link. Apparently Epic Game store will be giving out a free game every 2 weeks, with Super Meat Boy being next from the 28th. I guess we have to keep an eye out on them in the future.

Subnautica was actually one of the games on my Steam wishlist when I deleted the wishlist the other day, so that's really good timing.

Except, Epic's game launcher requires OS X 10.12 and I'm stuck on OS X 10.11. EXACTLY THE KIND OF DRM-RELATED CRAP THAT I DELETED MY STEAM WISHLIST OVER.

For some games, it seems like the best you can do is try and guess which DRM will be supported for your machine for the longest.

Ric Molina (www.MacGamerHQ.com) wrote in a recent email to his subscribers that "it doesn't matter the Mac version [of Super Meat Boy] is not supported there yet, it will soon". I don't know what his source was, but probably someone at Epic.

Assasins Creed Chronicles free on UPlay store. Looks like a second rate 2D platformer, but who knows. AC games are usually good.

There are three of them. The first one in the set is the better one, the second is ok, but tougher (more mind numbing on the difficulty scale), and I guess the third one (russia) is supposed to just be absolute abuse of the patience factor in terms of difficulty. I've not yet played that one yet, I've been spacing them out.

As for a 2d platformer goes, they are very well done (actually fully 3d, just forced camera from the side).

Thanks! I have the iOS version in my backlog already, but I'll pick this up as insurance, just in case the iOS version breaks.

For those who don't know, Thimbleweed is a point and click adventure throwback by Ron Gilbert, reuniting him with other LucasArts veterans like the ground-breaking 8-bit artist Mark Ferrari.

Richard Moss has two interesting interviews with Mark: https://lifeandtimes.games/ (eps 3 and 5.5)
