Daylights Savings Sucks

I'm a bit peaved this morning. I read the newspaper, and low and behold, an age old state (Indiana, where I live), is switching to start observing that pathetically stupid old farmer system called Dalyights Savings Time.

Indiana, and Arizona (where I used to live), have been two states that have not decided to take part in that dumb tradition. It has been great. My entire life I have lived without the bother of figuring out when or what to do twice a year with my damned clock!

What bothers me most about the whole issue, is our govn'r just up and decided to do this. No vote took place, no public discussion. This is something that greatly affects the lives of everyone, yet ONE MAN made the decision! Bloody lame country we live in, democracy my bum.

And it keeps getting better...

Today, I heard an interesting, and seriously disturbing, life-changing event of one of my close friends. He sent me a gist, of which I will caption here (Please excuse the typing, as he doesn't believe in the MLA):

january 25th i went to work at walmart, around 11pm i herd a celeb was in the store shopping. i made my way to the grocery side (snack aisle) to check things out. in fact rapper DMX was there buying chips surrounded by customers and employees getting pictures taken and gawking, i of course made an approach to say hi and shake hands. after a few minutes of chatting DMX asked me if he could get a walmart Vest, he had already a name badge and a job title badge other employees had made for him. i happened to have an old vest in my locker i offered it up to X. He seemed very happy to have a stupid vest. shortly after he had left and i went about my work considering the DMX encounter to take up my 15 minute break and no harm done. later that night i was pulled into the office and interrogated on my encounter, a security guard was in the office pushing for my termination, my manager saw no harm in what had happened and reduced my punishment for giving away a vest to a mere verbal warning. today(28th) i come to find out the other people involved giving away badges were in fact fired and i was next to be fired. being off for the last few nights, the security guard who has no authority or power over anyone, went to upper management and told what had happened. upper management of course hears "property theft, time theft" and makes examples of people. security guard got us fired just for the sake of kissing ass. the situation was done and settled by my supervisors, no need for it to be taken further. now i am jobless over a $1 apron and a famous rap star.

True story.

I'm stunned. An employee gets fired for talking to a celebrity, on his break, and giving him a vest. A cheapy useless heap of trash vest no less. John Travolta got a walmart vest on one of his visits, but did anyone get fired over it?

Just seems fishy to me. Although I hate rap... That's just wrong. Plus, DMX is a good actor.

I've always hated walmart. They have cheap shhhtuff, poor organization, a crappy layout, and horrible customer service. My friend aside, most employees of walmart are always standing around complaining about some useless bit of depressing news, or simply standing in an aisle acting like they are doing something. Rarely ever helping anyone, or doing anything to help the store, thatís for sure. The only friendly employees are the elderly who greet you. Greet you entering the festering vile pit of filth and decay that is walmart. All I know is, every time I go into that place, I'm in a pretty good mood. However, whenever I leave, I am in a rotten mood and I want to shoot someone. Why do I go? Lack of better judgment is my excuse. Mainly because someone gives me a flippen gift card for the place, or someone asked for something and quoted walmart as a 'good' place to get it. Gah! No more! I refuse to step foot in that rathole ever again.

As of this moment, consider walmart boycotted. Adding that place to the list, right under Home Depot.

It never ceases to amaze me...

The kind of stupidity that some people show...

The following appeared on the Letters page of the Sept. 21, 2002 Washington

Baldo's Bad

In the third frame of the Sept. 15 "Baldo" comic strip, the Baldo character states, "I rewired your personal CD player so it can play DVDs on your TV, too." To do this, Baldo must have broken the CSS (Content Scramble System) encryption code used for DVDs, a criminal offense under Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Perhaps subsequent strips will depict the efforts of the recording industry and the U.S. government to bring Baldo to justice; if not, a valuable opportunity to teach our children (and other readers of the strip) about copyright law will have been missed.
