I Can't Feel My Torso

Advice

Monday, the Day Before XBox 360 debuts.

I know a lot of you are already in your tents outside of the local Gamestop waiting for the store to open tomorrow, so that you can rush in and grab an XBox 360 before they're all taken. So this is for all of you who aren't in a tent by now, because you're the ones most likely to listen. If you're in a tent, nothing I say will make a difference.

I was allowed an advance preview of the 360 about two weeks ago, along with the opportunity to play a couple of upcoming games which I cannot remember the names of. Anyways, my advice is to wait on this system before dropping $300, for several good reasons.

Reason #1: The expense is HUGE. To get the "stripped-down" copy of this console runs you $300 alone, and that doesn't include things like accessories and XBox Live. Fully decking the system out runs up a tab of about $700, and then you still have your monthly online fees to worry about. Trust me, this system has been built around online play.

Reason #2: The cost will come down. It will. That $300 price tag will come down at least a hundred dollars after the initial rush is over, not to mention Microsoft will undoubtably drop their price before the PS3 debuts. Wait until the price war starts, and then take advantage.

Reason #3: Hardware. I know that the nifty hardware is the main selling point for the 360, the whole "next-gen" graphics deal and everything. However, if we look at past history Microsoft has a nasty little habit of jumping the gun and shipping with faulty hardware. How will you feel when you hear that your last paycheck suddenly developed a hard drive or video card glitch? Wait until Microsoft has their pants zipped and buckled before buying.

Reason #4: If you don't like first person shooter or sports games, you will not only hate the system, you will detest the controller. Trust me, I've held one of those monsters in my hand, and after an hour or so you realize your hands are numb.

I'm the sure that the XBox 360 will turn out to be a great system and all, but for the time being I'd wait. Hardware specs and souped-up processors don't signify a good game console, and you definitely shouldn't gamble your hard-earned money on something that might 1) prove faulty, and 2) leave you disappointed. My advice is to be patient, play at one of the Wal-Mart displays, or ask a friend if you can try his (or her) system before you yourself buy it. Be tight, and be shrewd with your money.

Things

Go Braves! Go White Sox! Go Angels!

Above all, go Cardinals!

I've watched two movies in the past two days, Flight Plan and Serenity. Flight Plan was a great movie and Jodie Foster did a really great job. Serenity was a little weird but overall was a good movie. I thought the casting could have been a little better, but I suppose you take what you can get.

I saw a preview for Chronicles of Narnia, and I can't say how excited I am that this great series is coming to the big screen. I'd read the Narnia saga when I was a kid, and always dreamed of watching a movie of it, so I'm more excited over this than when I first heard Lord of the Rings was being made. After Narnia, I have only to see The Wheel of Time come to the silver screen, and then I can die a happy man.

Right now I'm taking a break from Master of Orion III. I know this game has been out awhile, but I am just now getting to it. Been a little backlogged lately. I might post a review of it here if I find it worthy of one (that means if it really rocks or if its really bad). So far I have 8 planets, and a sizable fleet. I already lost my first game, when for some reason I decided to attack Orion with only fifty or so ships. That was..... embarassing.

I had a person message me wondering what my name is supposed to mean. Just for clarification, it is "BLACKS-HAWK", not Black sock, Black-shock, or Blackhawk misspelled. Blackshawk was the name of a peregrine falcon at the local zoo. I loved looking at that fascinating animal, and my internet alias has always since been, "Blackshawk".
