UK-based game publishing giant Eidos Interactive have confirmed rumors in the European press of preliminary talks with several different publishers regarding a possible takeover bid.
Without naming the list of potential buyers for the publishing giant, Eidos executives confirmed the takeover rumors in a recent strategic review update:
The Board of Eidos confirms that, whilst it continues to keep all options under review, it is in preliminary discussions with a small number of parties in relation to possible business combination. While the list of potential buyers has not been released to the public, word on the street has it that publishers Electronic Arts, Activision, and UbiSoft are on the shortlist of potential buyers, with Electronic Arts being perceived as the most likely purchaser.
Eidos, publishers of the highly popular Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Championship Manager franchises, has seen a rise in the company's stock price in the last few days as a result of the takeover rumors, a sharp contrast to the stock collapse that occurred several weeks ago when a profits warning was issued by the company's CFO as it neared its fiscal year-end.
Luckily for our readers, the possible Eidos takeover will most likely not have any negative effects for Mac gamers. Stay tuned to IMG as this story develops.
