Fans of Bungie's classic Marathon trilogy may want to check out a new scenario for the series titled Eternal. The total conversation of sorts uses the Marathon 2: Durandal game engine and features entirely new levels, textures, landscapes, weapons and music. Eternal also features an original storyline that takes place after the events in the trilogy's third game, Marathon Infinity, and it is suggested that players play the original games before playing Eternal. Here's a brief introduction from Eternal's website:
Eternal is a mod for Aleph One, the cross-platform, open source first-person shooter engine derived from Bungie's Marathon 2 engine. It's story is a direct, unofficial sequel to Marathon Infinity, the last installment of the original Marathon trilogy. While Eternal is a near-total conversion, featuring all new levels, textures, landscapes, weapons, and music, as well as a completely revamped user interface, most of the characters are retained from the original games. The game utilizes the open source Aleph One project to run, and is available now for free.
