Macintosh flight sim enthusiasts may remember SkyFighters 1945, the lighthearted WWII combat flight simulator for Mac OS 9 from Don Hill, then known as Bullseye Software. Hill created such classic OS 9 simulators as Flying Circus and the venerable Dogfight City. Now DonsGames has released a preview version of SkyFighters 1945 w/MB for Mac OS X.
The preview version is not merely a carbon port; rather, the entire game has been rewritten for Cocoa, and includes new flight models and graphics capabilities as well. In addition the new version of SkyFighters includes a Mission Builder, which the website describes:
New in this program are better flying aircraft, better looking clouds and smoke effects, larger textures, new worlds, and the w/MB part. What does "w/MB" stand for? "with Mission Builder". This new incarnation of SF1945 is designed around a Mission Builder, allowing you to design and create your own missions. Starting with a toolkit of worlds, objects, and aircraft, you can easily set the world to use, add objects like buildings, ground vehicles, targets, set where each aircraft begins the mission, and finally set up the victory conditions for your mission.
The OS X version of SkyFighters 1945 is currently a preview; not all elements of the game are complete. When complete, the full game will be $29.95 and will include a larger variety of aircraft, worlds, and ground targets.
