Doom 3 Confirmed for Mac OS X 7:43 AM | Andy Largent | Comment on this story
In another update to his .plan file, id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead confirmed a Mac OS X port of their upcoming shooter Doom 3, which was announced as going gold master for the PC yesterday afternoon. While details are scarce still concerning who might publish the Mac version or an exact release for it, Hollenshead assuages nervous Mac fans by promising something as soon as it's polished and ready: Mac and Linux: Unfortunately I don't have dates for either of these. However, Linux binaries will be available very soon after the PC game hits store shelves. There are no plans for boxed Linux games. More remains to be done for the OSX version of DOOM 3 and that will take some time. We won't release the OSX version until it's just as polished as the PC version. The date for OSX DOOM 3 remains "when it's done", but I can confirm that it's definitely coming. An exclusive PC Gamer review of the title reportedly recommends having a 1.5-2GHz processor PC in order to run the game properly, so it's likely the Mac version will need optimization to ensure the title is playable on the greatest number of Macs possible.Hollenshead also addresses the issue of a demo in his .plan update. He notes that while they're focused on just getting the retail version out now, and that the company has never "disappointed in that regard in the past." You can be assured IMG will bring you any new information on the OS X port of Doom 3 as soon as it's available.
